Auburn-Opelika area is the fourth smartest area in the nation?  Have I missed something?

Really?  I went to that site.  I searched for "Auburn", and found this article (Manufacturing-comeback cities):

"This includes Auburn-Opelika, Ala., No. 7 on our small cities list, where there has been a surge in employment by auto parts suppliers. The home of 25,000-student Auburn University, it has also seen strong growth in business services..."

I did not find a "smart city"; rather, I found a city replete with auto-parts stores that employs those 'smart' Aub graduates.

Good morning.  Coffee

I also think it is very fitting that the first thing you see when you got off the first Auburn exit is a McDonald's.

RAIN.  We've got steady, nasty rain.  Not a good day to be outside.

The coaching carousel has begun: Mike Riley (Oregon State) to Nebraska; Coach Mac (Colorado State) to Florida.  Next?

Those two school have to hire coaches now, but no one cares.

Michigan job still open.   Thinking

Auburn-Opelika area is the fourth smartest area in the nation?  Have I missed something?

newgeography.com?  who are they?

Quote
To determine the metro areas that are gaining brainpower in the 21stCentury, we scored the nation’s 380 metropolitan statistical areas based on three criteria. We started with the growth rate in the number of residents with at least a bachelor’s degree from 2000 through 2013 (25% weighting in final score). But since the places that post the highest growth rates tend to be those starting with low levels of educational attainment, we gave greater weight to the percentage point increase in the share of the population that is college-educated over that span (50%), and we factored in the share of educated people in the population in 2013 (25%).
So the criteria used to evaluate "smartest cities" is basically the percentage growth rate in citizens with a bachelor's degree?

So, for example, if Auburn grads hang around town after graduation and work at Auto Zone or McDonalds because they can't find employment, that makes them a "smart city?"

Dumbest thing I've ever read, and even dumber for the Auburn-Opelika paper to be quoting it.

I watched that game for a while, but the game wasn't close so I lost interest.  I didn't know EC would score 21 points in the 4th Quarter to take the lead.  Then they tried to run out the clock, taking a knee to bring the clock down to 10 seconds, and in those 10 seconds CF completed a pass to midfield then threw a Hail Mary to win the game.   Shocked

That was a heck of a game. UCF had ECU down 26-9 in the 2nd half. ECU came roaring back to take the lead 30-26, and then held UCF to a 4 and out with 1:46 left in the game.. They ran all but 10 seconds off the clock. UCF hit a completion to set up a hail Mary. It was executed to perfection. UCF won 32-30. The fans were completely stunned. Incredible finish!

I am working till noon today and leaving for Atlanta when I get off. A fun night on the town tonight and game tomorrow should be a lot of fun. I looks like a rainy weekend which is bad for driving but the game is indoors. I will take some pictures of the championship celebration after our win to share.

Everyone have a good weekend. Roll Tide!

I just saw the finish on ESPNU this morning.  ECU had the ball on the UCF 15 yard line, and instead of trying to score and put they game away, they just tried to run out the clock, getting down to 10 seconds but losing 20 yards in the process.  They could have tried for a TD, or at least ran the ball 3 times and kicked a FG to make it a 7 point game, but they thought they could run out the clock, and it bit them in the end.

Watch #39 on the play.  He lets the WR run past him, then starts to unsnap his chin straps as the WR catches the ball.

"Play to the end of the game!"

That play reminds me of a certain return of a missed field goal last year for a touchdown that still infuriates me. Angry
