SSmith-That picture looks like the same saw. They have gone up. I bought my 029 for $229. It was on sale at the time (10 years). I've gone through maybe 20 chains, but never a problem. It hasn't been used since around Thanksgiving, but I gaurantee it starts on the second pull-- first with choke.

5-6" of snow last night. "Good morning, all"

Thanks, ok, so unless I hear otherwise I am going to pick one of these up this morning.

Snow?

Yeah. Roads were an icy mess last night. The plow went by at 1:15 this morning. Schools closed but it seems they close schools for anything now. We went to school with snow to our knees, or maybe back then I was shorter.

You have younguns?
5 total. Only 2 at home (High School).

LOL!  Mrs. Bill keeps my ego toned down when it requires.   I am indeed impressed.  I'm going room to room now, checking it all out........I smell cedar, is there a sauna in here?   Cool

Welcome aboard Brosky. Looking at your avatar, you haven't changed a bit. What did you do, find the fountain of youth?

Yes, and it flows with poontang.  Hope I can say that here.  Is it okay???   Huh?

Country, honor, freedom. If I'm gonna die for a word, my word is poontang.

Sin,

Thank you for making us think of our mother's poontang.   Embarrassed

Fixed it.  Funny, when I think of that character, I dont think of my mom.  He's one of the best parts of Full Metal Jacket, imo.

Okay, I'm all coffee-rich now and ready for action.  This lovely child said she wanted to be a Crimson-Red Thread Girl, so I complied.

I love my new Stihl MS290.  Cheesy

Cut down two large pines and one small one, carved them up and threw them in the fire pit in about 4 hours.  The difference in using the stihl was like night and day*.

When I say large, I mean may 20" diameter trunk and 30 -40 feet tall. That's about as big as they get in my pine forest (which is probably 2/3 the size it was when I bought the property, still over an acre though).   I have at least two back there that are real 'large pines', they are flipping huge, I am not experienced enough for those.

Not to insult, but a few notes.

Green pines are the easiest trees to cut.  They bend before they fall; many trees suddenly break.

Just a bit of warning.  The wind is the key.  Never expect a tree to fall against the wind, even if you cut a big wedge.

If it's calm (no wind), stand under the tree and look up.  Usually you can tell which way it wants to fall by the distribution of limbs.

I'm trying to find the insult...  Dont see it.

Pines are almost all I cut.  There are some dead trees I cut up every once in a while that are whatever, seems to me like the center of these pines are just as hard as anything I have cut, but no matter, I have the right equipment now.

I learned the wind lesson yesterday.  da#@ thing was leaning down hill, I cut a huge wedge, and it still fell with the wind.  It was ok though because I knew it was a possibility.
