OK , need some feedback here ...

need a new laptop , like yesterday !

I have a Dell , it is sick , terminal I'm afraid
trying to fix it but not yet ...

bought a Alien about a year and a half ago
very expensive but a awesome machine
the best I've ever used to put it mildly
I think lightning or something must of hit it
no one around here can fix it or wants to so I sold it
I miss it bad ... not spending that much again though .

I have a IBM that I loaned my daughter
it's trash now so forget it .

then I have a Toshiba that has been a great machine
but it is falling apart , literally ...

these laptops have changed a lot  so I was wondering
what brands are good now ?
without dropping 3k on one and say in the 6 -700 dollar range
what should I get for the most bang for the buck ?
any favorites ?  or recommendations ?
TIA for any help !

I like Asus myself.  One common problem that most high end laptops have these days is overheating.  They cram so much stuff in there they don't have any room left for sufficient airflow to keep things cooled off.  Top that off with the fact that they try to run the fans as quietly as possible and you have a recipe for a short life span.

That is a nice one.  Have you been to Click here for link yet?  They have a message board with a board for each manufacturer.  You can get on there and see what people who actually own that particular machine have to say about it.  It is a good way to research and find out if that model is a good one or a dud.  If you see bunches of posts on there about the same problem then that might give you some insights as to whether you want to lay down all of you hard earned cash on it before you risk it.

SC has forgot more about computers than I will ever know but I will offer my two cents anyway.

You can get a 15" MacBook Pro for $1,200 or less. There are several ways to get $100 off such as military or student discount. Both of my kids have MAC's and they are trouble free. With MAC you get what you pay for IMO. MAC's just don't get attacked by viruses like PC's. They last. We have three now. My oldest daughter got a new one when she gratuated college and my wife is using the old one. We upgraded the operating system and increased the RAM and that machine runs like new.

My computers are provided by work. I have IBM desk top and Hannspree notebook. They do not compare to MAC.

MAC's are expensive but it sounds like you go through a lot of them. A MAC could save you money in the long run.

I would also highly recommend Apple if you are looking to spend 1000 to 1500 and don't absolutely have to have a PC for work.  Even if you do, you are probably better off running Windows on an Apple with VMWare Fusion, but you will probably want to get one with a lot of memory if you do that (or upgrade the memory).  I use Fusion every single day all day long and it works great.

I have never owned an Apple laptop yet, so I can't speak to hands on experience.  But the next laptop I buy will most likely be an Apple.
