Running back Trent Richardson was named Alabama's most valuable player and joined safety Mark Barron and linebacker Don't'a Hightower as a permanent 2011 captain, it was announced Sunday night at the team's banquet in Birmingham.

Barron and Hightower also were 2010 captains.

Hightower, Barron and outside linebacker Courtney Upshaw were named the Crimson Tide's defensive players of the year. The trio also shared the outstanding defensive performer award.
