I can't help but keep asking why have we struggled with the QB job over the years. Is this because we try to have a ground & pound running game, Saban keeping the reins tight on what the QB can do, or something else? For example, I was watching the Cincinnati/Memphis game last night. The UC QB goes down injured and the replace him with a freshman QB who passes 557 yards & 4 TD's. I understand their conference is not the SEC but still very impressive. I don't want to see 53-46 games but all things being equal, you can't ignore the fact we have struggled with QB's and have never had a back-up QB who might be able to make an impact on a team. Like I said, it's something I am asking others for their observations. Thanks folks.

I think MD if we remember in the past we went after some big time QB's and their look at us was great but it came down to the running game because they were not under the spotlight like they wanted to be. Also, the fact that they don't have the freedom to do as they dang well desire and get by with it. I like a clean program or as clean as can be but I feel like this has some to do with our recruiting on the top of the line QB. Now, we got Blake and all the way from California and I wonder why he or Cornwell is not being brought along so we have a 2 or 3 year type QB working with the #1's? RTR!

I would say that overall you are right in your assessment of Bama qb's.  However, I would also caution you to be patient with the qb that we picked up this spring, he might be the one we've been wanting and waiting for for so long...

The freshman Cincy QB is from Clay. AL. I wonder if Bama rejected him or what.

I spend more time worrying about defense. As Coach Bryant said, you don't know how much the offense has to score to win but the defense knows it should hold opponents scoreless.  Or something like that.

Good points, especially about the freedom to ad lib the passing/run by a QB. This is why I meant by Saban keeping the reins tight. It worked in the past, but maybe we need to adjust our thinking now.

Another concern is the recruitment of WR's. It seems we get the killed most by guys 6'2", 6'3", 6'4", or taller on key pass receptions and overall our WR's have in many cases been average. Julio and Cooper are pretty much it for exceptional WR's. Imagine if they had had a very good WR out there with them. We have Cam Sims is 6'5", Mullaney 6'3" (a senior), and Foster is 6'2" (I think, plus he's out). Again, is it bad recruiting, poor development, or a failure to get receivers and use them properly. Like I said, I am conflicted/confused.

 Huh?

I would like to see Bama recruiting some cornerbacks that are in the 6'-2" and higher range.  That way the mismatch would be harder for opponents to come up with...

I would like to see some of our DB's be strong enough to knock the opposing WR's off their feet at the LOS. RTR!

I'd like to see some DB's that are not only taller, but that will play the ball and not the receiver, last week had the DB been keeping an eye on the ball it wouldn't have bounced off his back and into the other receiver's hands, it would also stop some of these pass interference calls as well.
