But I thought CNS was an unemotional robot of a coach who did not care about anything but winning. Phillip Sims was processed and all that.

I am convinced CNS is a good man who cares about his (former) players whether anyone else who pulls for another school does or not.

You may be onto something there.  He "cares" for his former players.  Those that are still under scholarship for him he is still an unemotional robot of a coach who does not care about except that they do those things necessary for being successful...
