Joyous sights and sounds from Auburn as Toomer's Corner gets its new trees
More than four years after Alabama fan Harvey Updyke Jr. poisoned a pair of trees at Auburn's Toomer's Corner -- and almost two years since the dying oaks were removed -- there was finally a sense of renewal on The Plains Saturday morning.

At the legendary spot on the corner of campus where generations of Tiger fans have celebrated by rolling the trees after victories, thousands of those fans gathered again to see the planting of two new oaks. H ...

The trees are from Ehrhardt, South Carolina.
That's odd, because a botanist from the Auburn arboretum told us several years ago that Auburn was raising replacements from seedlings of the original trees.

Live Oaks are not native to Auburn, and the original trees weren't healthy even before Harvey did his stupidity.  Maybe these new trees are deemed more winter-hardy, redneck-hardy, and toilet-paper hardy.

A 2011 study showed that live oaks from more northern climates were indeed more cold hardy.

Thanks for the reference.
Guess the Aubs gave up on the statement made by their botanist to us:
"Aubrun fans won't be happy unless the replacement trees are grown from Toomers Oak seedlings."
