We have run the wide receiver screen consistently since CNS arrived. We ran it to Julio often.

I realize this is a play Bama has used for years.  But this year it is like Darby up the middle, a bit too predictable.

Hopefully bamaphil is right and these passes are to help the QBs adjust to live game action. 

Otherwise Bama will end up like Ohio State, losing to a team that stacked the box, rushed 6, and dared the QB to throw down field.

Another thing about the screen pass: as CNS likes to say we are just taking advantage of the opportunities the other team gives us!

SEC Network analyst Andre Ware said Sims was quicker with his release on the screen plays, but what does the clock say? We're ultimately talking about fractions of a second from the time the ball is snapped to when they reach receivers in the step-back receiver screen. They're typically thrown with the snap on one hash and the throw going to the numbers on the far hash.

In those throws, Sims' passes reached receivers as fast as 1.78 seconds. Coker's quickest delivery took 1.83 seconds. These throws don't cover the exact same distance, so take a quick look at two screen passes for both Sims and Coker to judge the delivery. Neither quarterback has a short throwing motion either, but the naked eye says Sims is a shade quicker on average....
