Alabama Baseball Takes Another Loss

This is making 2015 look like a really tough year for the Tide.


 

Alabama already had a couple of big holes to fill in its lineup in the wake of last month's MLB Draft.

Catcher/designated hitter Wade Wass agreed to terms on a minor league contract with the Los Angeles Angels on Monday. Though he surprisingly went undrafted, Wass was impressive enough in a 12-game stint with the Brewster WhiteCaps to procure a deal that effectively ends his college career.

Wass' departure means Alabama will need to replace its top three hitters from 2014, as Ben Moore and Austen Smith already signed professional contracts. Wass, a junior-college transfer who missed most of 2013 with multiple injuries, hit .302 with a team-high 19 doubles, five home runs and 39 RBIs

I was hoping (and thinking) Wass would be back since he was not drafted. It is true that we lose our top three hitters and two best starting pitchers but I still think we have a better team coming back next year. We have a good junior class for leadership, strong pitching and a lot of young talent.

Our situation is no different from any of the better teams in the SEC. We lose good players to graduation and the MLB draft every year. We have to overcome that by recruiting good players that can step in and contribute at a high level when their time comes. I think we have done that.

LOL!! Especially in the SEC with their goofy way of awarding scholarships. Plus, the SEC is the premiere baseball of the NCAA and scouts are all over the area looking for players.
