The 2014 season: CRUCIAL for Anthony Grant
Three key pieces. As all Alabama basketball fans know, Anthony Grant and his coaching staff must win as the embattled head coach enters his 6th season at the Capstone. Last season’s 13-19 record was the worst for the program since 1969, but help is on the way. A four-man signing class and three transfers have been signed and will be eligible this coming season, giving the roster much-needed depth (on the perimeter) and the tools to play an up-tempo style. Reggie Witherspoon replaces Tony Pujol on the Tide bench as an assistant and will hopefully help on the offensive end of the floor and in player development. The seven newcomers are: transfers Ricky Tarrant (guard) from Tulane, Michael Kessens (forward) from Longwood University, and Christophe Varidel (guard) from Chaminade, along with high school signees Jeff Garrett (forward) from Oldsmar Christian School in Florida, Devin Mitchell (guard) from Collins Hill School in Georgia, Riley Norris (forward) from Albertville (AL) High School and Justin Coleman (guard) from Wenonah High School in Birmingham.
