Varidel is a fast pace 3 point shooter. He only has one year remaining to play and he can play right away. He choose Bama over UCLA.

Quote
The Swiss player scored 42 points in a game last season against Baylor while making 10 shots from 3-point range. But his season was cut short by injury after playing just three games.

As a junior during Florida Gulf Coast's run to the Sweet 16, Varidel scored 6.2 points a game while making 35.4 percent of his 3-point shots. His best scoring season came as a freshman when Varidel averaged 11.5 points a game.

Varidel is one of seven new players who'll be eligible to play next season for Alabama. Among the other fresh faces is transfer Michael Kessens, another Swiss born player who sat out last season.

@GoodmanESPN: Chaminade guard Christophe Varidel told ESPN he's headed to Alabama. Averaged 19 points per game last season. Eligible this season for Tide.

@GoodmanESPN: Varidel, who began his career at Florida Gulf Coast, chose Alabama over UCLA. Said he will celebrate decision by going surfing now.

@GoodmanESPN: @AndyGlockner He texted me at 3 a.m. Hawaii time this morning on his way to hike up a mountain. FGCU to Hawaii to Tuscaloosa.

He must prefer the warm Gulf to the cold California Pacific.

I remember his team playing Bama at Coleman, they had a very good team. This could be a great asset to the team. Applause E-Cred

It's been a while since we had a three point threat.  Hopefully he can produce this year and provide some depth while the young guys adjust to the college game.

I will wait to see but the stats sound really good.  If he can move with enough speed to stay away from the sec defenders then he will be a shining star. RTR!

Well, with just 1 year of eligibility I don't expect much. He has to learn our system on offense & defense, develop chemistry with the team, etc. Interesting possibilities, though.

We have too many first year players. I think it is good to bring in his experience for 1 year to help the young guys out. I would rather had a big man but I think this is a good late pick up and his scholarship is free next year.

I really like our roster for next year. We have depth for the first time in several years. We are loaded at guards and small forwards. If Kessens, Hale and Taylor hold their own under the basket we will be a good team. We have a lot of scoring options. I think Jacobs will be back but that is not 100% certain at this time.

This may sound crazy, but I think Jacobs could be the key to our season if he plays like I know he can.

This is the best article I have seen on Varidel. It explains his knee injury and why he left FCGU. This guy is a sharp shooter who can fill up the basket if he gets open. I think we will enjoy watching him in his one year at Alabama.

Good read. Thanks, pmull. Looks like he's 100% healthy now. Could be the shooter we've been needing.
