Nick Saban's Monday News Conference

I was listening to Saban's news conference yesterday while driving down the road. I found it very interesting when he talked about the secondary. He stated they were not disciplined and lined up wrong or were watching the backfield instead of their man. The secondary discussion starts around the 4:30 mark of the interview. He makes pointed comments about Geno Smith. Also, he talks about other players throughout the interview.

I listened to it too.  The positive thing I took from it was his comments about telling a kid not to touch the stove because it is hot, but a lot of times they will do it any way and then once they get burned they will start to listen.  Well, the offense touched the stove in the first game.  Look at the improvement they made.  Now the defense has touched the stove.  If they will start to listen and improve, who knows how good this team will be by the time we play LSU.

That was a good example he gave. I could see he was frustrated and early in the interview he makes a point of saying the players have to learn to trust their coaches and what they are telling them. I think he was referring to the DB's.

You could tell he had a chance to watch the game film since his last press conference right after the game.  He told those guys over and over to not watch the QB before the game.  Then yesterday he pointed out that one DB was caught looking at the QB instead of watching his receiver 15 times in the game.  It is good to learn some hard lessons like that and get their attention, without suffering a loss to do it.

Looks like Saban is serious about the DB situation. Read an article that he has a bunch of new guys out there practicing. He will not tolerate what happened to them in the TAM game again.

He said similar things in the interview. He said he used his most experienced guys for the 2 tough games but would now get more (younger) players a shot at starting. That was as a shot across the bow of Geno Smith & Fulton (especially).
