I cussed in the in-game thread because that call was so bad. That was the worst officiated SEC game since the Bama-Georgia SECCG game. We were lucky to survive the game due to the officiating and our less than stellar defense.

Junk call.

Goes along with several others and some no call block in the backs on 1 or 2 Manziel scrambles.  Specifically, the one where the horse-collar was called against UA.

There needs to be an offensive face masking call if the NCAA is truly concerned about protecting the well-being of the players.

Grabbing and twisting should be illegal.

Seems like closing your hand on a defenders face mask was illegal when I was playing.

I agree. When is the last time a Saban coached Bama team had 12 penalties in a game? I'm not sure they ever have.

I said in an earlier thread that this new rule could cost a team a game and it almost cost Bama yesterday. SEC refs did not need another rule to confuse them anymore than what they already are. After the ruling from the booth, why didn't the ref just pick up his flag as a no call.

After waking up at 3:00 AM and not having internet access as I'd been told I would, half-sleeping on and off for the next four hours, and watching Bama's poor start I completely lost it on that call.

Basically the call confirmed everything we feared about the rule coming into the season.  It makes no sense that the booth can overturn the ejection but not the penalty.  Verne and Gary aren't right often, but they were right when they said that the booth essentially said that the refs got the call wrong but A&M still got 15 yards.

I think a better rule would be for the office to review any personal fouls after the game and suspend anyone who committed a "targeting" foul for the next game.

It is stupid but by rule the 15 yd penalty called on the field for targeting can not be overturned by the replay official. All the replay official can review is if the foul should result in a players ejection. It is crazy but that is the rule. I don't know if they will change that rule during the season but I bet it is changed by next year. The replay official basically said a bad call was made on the field.

someone said the 12th man was wearing black and white striped shirts Saturday

I tend to agree , if the call was over turned in the booth it
made the 15 yards a bull crap call too ...

but ... as bad as it sucked , I'm just glad Ha Ha stayed in the game

these refs need to have accountability  Banging your head against the wall.

we got the noodle numerous times , hope this isn't a trend

The ESPN guys pre-season said this was the dumbest rule change in the books, precisely because they could overturn the ejection but not the 15 yard penalty.  The thinking is that the review booth can review the ejection but not the penalty, because penalties aren't reviewable.  At the time, I didn't realize we would see how dumb it was so soon.

I think in the past, or maybe in the NFL, ejections were handled with post-game review.  So that is one possibility.  But if you're going to review it immediately, why not overturn the yardage penalty too?

I think a huge factor everyone is overlooking, it was on A&M's sideline.  Everyone there was howling calling for a flag.  It could have been different if on the Bama sideline.

I think the rule needs to be reworded.  Targeting should in some instances accompany another foul such as pass interference.  If HaHa had been flagged for PI with targeting and then the replay official overturned the targeting part then I wouldn't have as much of a problem keeping the PI part even though there obviously wasn't either.

Also, why is it that the defender in this situation was flagged with targeting.  Both players were "playing" the ball when the collition occurred so if one player gets flagged for targeting then both should have been in a play where both are playing the ball...
