Former Tide QB Freddie Kitchens Has Emergency Surgery

One week after he underwent emergency heart surgery, former Alabama quarterback Freddie Kitchens is out of the hospital and thankful for the people who kept him alive.

Kitchens, who recently joined Bruce Arians' staff with the NFL's Arizona Cardinals as a quarterbacks coach, was released Monday from the Arizona Heart Hospital, according to the Cardinals' official website. Kitchens, 38, will be initially limited in what he can do, but he is expected to return to the team at some point during its upcoming training camp

I don't know what he looks like now, but he was certainly overweight when he played for the Tide. It may have caught up with him. 38 is awfully young to be having heart problems.

There is a picture of him down in the WALL-E World article.  He looks a little plump, but not anything outrageous.  38 is indeed way to young to be having heart problems.

According to the article he had a defective aorta. That is a defective value which limits or can stop blood flow. It is a hereditary disease that does not show up until you are an adult. It can be very serious but once corrected he should be fine.

I think this is the same thing that eventually killed Lewis Grizzard. He regularly had to go into surgery to have his Pig valve replaced (yes, they replaced the defective valve with a pig valve, or so he said). He died on the operating table during his 3rd or 4th replacement.

Anyway, that would not have anything to do with his weight.

Wow, that really makes me think. Freddie and I are the same age, and I guarantee that even though he has put on a few pounds he is in infinitely better shape than I am. Makes you realize that health problems know no age limit. Glad to see that FK is doing well.
