It appears CAG has the full support of the AD and administration. In Septerber 2012 he got a $100,000 raise and his contract was extended until 2019. He needs to do better next year but it does not look to be as critical a year as some predict.

Quote
"What I know is every time I meet with Anthony, I'm more impressed with him," Battle said. "I think he's the right guy for our job. I was very impressed with the way our team played.

The Crimson Tide has won at least 20 games in the last three seasons under Grant, whose contract was recently extended through 2019.

My concern is Battle seems to be living on sunbeams and hope-so's. What if the team underperforms again next year? Plus, is he really that impressed in the team making the NIT? I want the team to win in the worst way, but all this "happy talk" really annoys me. I go strictly by results, not rainbows and puppy dogs. Don't mean to sound so negative, but I have heard this kinda of crap way too much in sports, including our own athletic programs.

What else is an AD supposed to say at a Crimson Caravan event. His job is to pump sunshine.

I did not remember CAG getting a raise and contract extension last year. He will have to do worst than 20 wins and NIT appearance to be in trouble next year. I don't think he is on the hot seat unless the team falls apart.

You're right, pmull.  And as we've seen in the past at other institutions, getting a "vote of confidence" from an AD really doesn't mean much.

Exactly, the dreaded vote of confidence. Unfortunately, these votes of confidence can be expensive when they include a contract extension. Also, I am shocked to see pmull saying that another trip to the NIT is acceptable next year. Wow!

That is my opinion of what the administration will accept. I do not know the terms of the contract but I expect there is a huge buyout involved. CAG's contract is $1.9m per year through 2019. Firing him with 5 years remaining on his contract could be very expensive.

My opinion is this is a non issue because I think we will do very well next year.

If we had not extended his contract, we would not be worrying about a huge buyout. Also, this is an opinion board and your opinion matters and you have never hesitated from stating it before. Blind loyalty is not your forte.

 Huh?

I think that is a good summary.  I don't usually complain about things that aren't going to change anytime soon.
