To me, successful recruiting is the second most important piece of the puzzle for a championship program with developing the players and how they perform as a team the most important. CNS has turned recruiting into a frenzy for college teams of today with every school wanting to know how he does it so well.

When I read this I thought of you concerning Lemonier's statement, that is a classic.

I imagine their entire coaching staff is like used car salesmen.  Laughing

This was a great read. I can see where honesty would run a lot of recruits off but it sounds to me like CNS is upfront and that is why he gets class recruits. RTR!

Some schools go after good football players or athletes. The schools like Alabama that recruit at a higher level than most recruit good players that are also good kids. When you can only bring in 25 recruits you can not miss on many. You can not bring in kids that are boardline with their grades or that have a history of getting in trouble. I think we miss on some 4/5 star players (and we all get upset) because the coaching staff knows something about the player we do not. I know CNS puts an emphasis on meeting the parents and HS coaches. I think this is very important on determining what type character the kid has.

There is no getting around the coaches have to be good salesmen. In order to build depth you have to recruit players that are willing to wait their turn to be a star. BATR played behind Ingram, AJ waited on McElroy and the list goes on and on. You have to sell the school, academics and facilities as well as championships, preparing for the NFL, etc. As CNS says the process. You can not sell playing time year after year and claim to be young - either you are lying or your system is not working.

I don't buy this "family" crap. Building a family atmosphere is a lot like integrity. It is not something you just join it has to be earned. Successful programs have a team concept. The team comes first. Each player has his teammates back. You don't want to let your teammate down. You hold each other accountable. If a player is not pulling his weight the players correct it without the coaching having to. Spending time together in the weight room, film room, training room and practice field brings a team together. The harder you work the more losing hurts. There is no shortcut to building a team concept. It is developed through hard work and deication.
