The Tuscaloosa News is reporting that, after interviewing for the Bulldogs job, McElwain has removed his name from consideration.  Sources told the paper that “concerns over the budget in the Fresno State athletic department, and its ability to sustain competitive football at the school, were a factor in McElwain’s decision.”  Those same concerns reportedly played a role in McElwain’s decision to drop his pursuit of the Memphis job....

I think ole CJM has become spoiled here at Bama..lol Where else is he going to go and be able to compete? and the Alth Dept shell out money for upgrades? Where is this school that would hire him as a HC is the big question.

This sounds strange to me. I like him ok as our OC (still think his play calling in big games sometimes stinks) but is he really a geat HC hire?

Not sure, but it looks like CKS and CJM  may stay for at least for another year. Good for them. Good for Alabama.

Having both of them help coach Alabama to a NC in '09 only increases our chances of winning another one this year.

It's difficult to reel in good recruits with poor to average facilities. CJM can wait for the right choice for him, I think, because he is comfortable being an assistant at Bama. I don't think he is interested in resurrecting a slumping program if the University can't or isn't interested in upgrading facilities.

Applause E-Cred 2stater I think you hit the nail on the head. Money is everything in college sports. When a coach comes to know what kind of facilities we have and then see the dark dungeon bargain basement of other schools I am sure they will not run away so easily.
I applaud you for that thought because it is so true. RTR!

So you two think a guy with no head coach experience and a mixed review as OC can start demanding stadiums in the initial interview?

Well he has been in a situation here where he sees what facilities does for the teams. Yes, I think he could do that, or just not become the head coach of that team. If they want him to grow them bad enough I think they should work on matching things he wants. RTR!
