"That's me being a competitor," said Richardson, his soft voice after the game belying the kind of explosive production he provides. "That is the type of dude I am. I wanted the ball down there. I was telling the coaches."
It's also telling that of the 230 all-purpose yards Richardson produced, it was the one yard he failed to get that left him wanting more.
But as so often happens with the Crimson Tide, the defense responded 57 seconds later with the game's turning point, a 25-yard interception return for a score by DeQuan Menzie.
When Marquis Maze followed early in the third quarter with an 83-yard punt return that ignited delirium at this massive stadium, the end was near for Arkansas. Richardson finished it off less than two minutes later, taking a screen pass, busting a tackle and racing 61 yards for a game-sealing score.
"Trent is just an unbelievable player," said Crimson Tide offensive tackle Barrett Jones, who had the pivotal block on the play. "I think he is really an ultimate teammate. We're all glad this is the year for him to be the guy."
