Nike takes over the NFL  apparel contract next year (after nearly a decade of Reebok control) and now wants to remake the sport in its own image. So what can we expect?

Right after the image.

I was somewhat embarrassed that the Tide took part in the Pro Combat advertising last season. But the changes from our traditional uniform were minimal and we (I assume) made money by participating. But any more "tinkering" with a uniform that has made us champions among champions should be considered treasonous. Angry Angry Angry

I do realize the link has to do with the NFL, but used the opportunity to air my grievance.

The NFL is a huge loss to Reebok. That is about the only thing they had going for them.

If this goofy trend had been around during, say the 60s, would we have had tie-dyed unis and players in Jesusesque sandals? It is obnoxious to the older generations and makes you wonder who/whom is running the show. I am picturing a generation that, while only recently arriving on the scene, somehow feels smart enough to make decisions for everyone.

During my college days, we argued for a chance to present our opinions. Just a voice and a vote at the table. Now the younger generations have been told they are so great that they don't ask for a voice, but to control the discussion and a final say so. Horsecrap!

I didn't like the Nike swoosh put on the Crimson Tide jersey and uniforms back in the 1990s.
This ain't NASCAR.

I don't mind the swoosh. I look at that as part of the uniform. The school in west ga that wears underarmor, which I will never wear, that logo is ugly.

They still make a pretty good pair of shoes, if that counts for anything.  I have been buying their shoes since I was a teen.

I have a hard time believing they will change classic uniforms like the Packers, Bears, Colts, Giants, and maybe the Cowboys & Steelers. Too much tradtion, especially the first 4 teams I mentioned.

How do you design a uniform that does not use either of the school's two colors in any way?
