DENVER -- The trade for running back Trent Richardson has officially hit the failure level for the Indianapolis Colts.

The Colts made Trent Richardson inactive for Sunday's AFC divisional playoff game against the Broncos.
Richardson, for whom the Colts gave up a first-round draft pick in September 2013, is inactive for Sunday's AFC divisional playoff game against the Denver Broncos.

Trent looks like he has lost a step since his playing days at Bama. I just can't imagine what has happened to him. I would have bet money that he would be one of the best RB's in the NFL. May have over-done it in the weight room.

Yea I was asking in another post what could have happened to him? He just seemed to be the Rookie with the HOF future in his path but now all of a sudden nobody even speaks of him. I just can't imagine a talent like that could have just poof went away. RTR!

Yeah, it's sad, Preacher. He had a bright future.

He was never that fast to start with. Plus, he has never had a good run-blocking O-line in the NFL. Maybe he should lose 10-20 pounds to see if he can be a step quicker. I don't think he is a bust, yet.

I'm not convinced he is an NFL bust yet either.  I also don't think he has 10 pounds of fat that he can lose though...

Good question. He's listed as 5'9" 225. I think he could shed 10 pounds with a good trainer.

I just personally don't think he has enough body fat to amount to 10 pounds.  The guy is pretty ripped last I heard/saw...

I don't think he is a bust.  As noted, he hasn't had a run blocking O Line.  Watching the Colts today I noticed that they did not have much success running the ball -- Herron had 63 yards on 23 carries, for an average of 2.7 yards per carry (TR averaged 3.3 ypc at the Colts).   Colts were 22nd in the league in rushing this year.  The Colts' offense is clearly centered around Andrew Luck and the passing game.

As we all know from watching Bama, rushing is more than about one player, it takes an offensive line with powerful run blockers and a scheme and coaching designed to utilize a size/strength advantage.  That is the type of scheme where TR could be successful, not a passing offense that hands off the ball as a change of pace  and requires a quick RB to scramble for yards.  Hopefully TR gets traded to a team better able to use his skill set.

Yeah, that could be a problem, I just don't know much on this type of subject. If he's all muscle, what can he lose?

You can lose muscle by getting out of the weight room and doing more aerobic type exercising.  But I don't think TR needs that.  He should play to his strengths, not his weaknesses, if he is going to be successful.

TR is not a quick, nimble RB, he's a power back.  He needs to be in an offense dedicated to running the football, with an OLine able to move the line of scrimmage.

He won't be successful with a passing offense that wants a quick RB to find/make his own holes.

It's sad to see this happen and hopefully something good will come out of it for TR. He seems to be a gym rat with his love for lifting weights, Jesse Williams included, but in Trent's case I think he has overcooked himself with too much muscle mass. In Jesse's case, he lifts for the strength and uses a diet for his weight. All of that muscle mass saps any of his quickness which is what a runner needs with speed to back it up. These weight lifters get on all of that high protein junk and try to get the huge mass that they desire because they think it looks good. He had good speed and quickness at Bama because Coach Cochran wouldn't let him lift to get the mass, just the strength. I can remember from years past when I used to go to the gym a lot, some of the guys would get teased about getting so muscle bound they couldn't wipe their nose anymore.

Maybe it will work out for him but I think he needs to make some changes in his gym life and I'm betting some team owners are thinking the same.
