I am glad he came out about this. I can not comprehend this fawning devotion to Paterno.

I don't blame him for being pizzed.  PSU brought him in knowing the boom was about to fall, but didn't tell him anything.  He did a great job, held the program together when players were bailing.  And for Paterno-fans to give him grief, that's uncalled for.

I think it might have been worse than that. I'm sure there are still alumni who were Paterno sycophants who were always talking about the good ole days and how great Joe was. Plus, they still wanted the same access they had under Paterno.

I think he knew what he was getting into at Penn State regarding NCAA sanctions. I don't think he liked being a college coach. Too much recruiting and dealing with boosters. Following Peterno was no easy task either. The politics of college ball is much different than the pros. It reminds me of Ray Perkins leaving Alabama for similar reasons. He did not like college politics, recruiting and the pressure of following Bear Bryant.

I imagine the Penn State fan base and administration hate him right now but he left the program in much better shape than he found it. He kept the football program together when it could have been destroyed. He went 15-9 in two years and took the bulk of the punishment. He proved you could still win at Penn State even under the worst conditions.

Someone needs to teach him a lesson about not burning bridges. He showed no class in making the comments he did about Penn State. Even when they are true some things are left better unsaid.

Guess he doesn't care about any bridges that might lead back to Penn State. I was also thinking about the comparison of this situation to Perkins following Bear Bryant, with an added twist of dealing with the Albert Means fiasco at the same time. Not sure how anyone could handle both situations. Will be very interesting to see how the search goes there and whether they end up with their Bill Curry.

I don't care what the Notre Dame people say, we were the best team that year (1966).

Albert Means was during Dubose's tenure.

Bill Curry is not remembered as well as he should be IMO. After a 7-5 start he went 9-3 and 10-2. He won an SEC Championship and played for a National Championship. He left Stallings a lot of good players. He left us on his own because he was never accepted as an Alabama man.
