Since mid season this year, J Train has been pretty much an average pitcher compared to her performances the past two years. Even as an average pitcher though, she is better than most. As the season has progressed, her stamina or the lack of being able to throw 200-250 pitches has disappeared, she is now struggling to make 100 pitches in a game. She was removed from the game today after five innings.
Everybody has been asking the question of what is wrong with her but whatever it is, it has been a well kept secret. Some have said, including me, that she lost 35 lbs, which is a lot, and maybe this is her problem. Some have said it could be a shoulder or arm injury and some have said that maybe her playing summer ball after the regular season last year could have had a burn out affect on her. What we do know is, she isn't the same pitcher that she was last year or the year before.
Today might have been the first sign of what her problem really is, she was wearing a long sleeve on her pitching arm. After she was removed from the game in the 6th inning, she removed the long sleeve and there was a wrapped bandage on her pitching arm from from her wrist to the elbow. This was the first time that I have seen the wrapped bandage. She no longer bats, so something must be wrong with either her wrist, forearm, or her elbow. This is not good news and hopefully it is an injury that time and therapy will let her get back to 100%.
I won't say it is impossible for them to make it back to Oklahoma City, but with J Train not being her old self, it will be mighty tough though to repeat what they did last year. This is just my observation and opinion of her problem and by no means an actual injury diagnosis of her situation.
The weight loss & lack of stamina are what bothers me. That can be a symptom of many things, mostly medical issues. Now I'm worried about her and her health.
