Newly-hired Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn released Gene Chizik's staff late Wednesday afternoon and told them that he planned to hire a new staff, beginning with the offensive and defensive coordinators.

The meeting was brief. Malzahn informed Auburn's assistants that he planned to start with the coordinator positions and move on from there.

Well that's already more rope than I thought he'd be given by heads of the farmily.

I'm guessing ole Gus demanded this authority as a condition of his hiring.  Will be interesting to see what happens to Trooper and Luper.

Well of course he's going to fire Chiz's guys and bring in his own.  All new head coaches do that.

Don't forget, this is Auburn that we are talking about. Wink

I think it is a good move my Malzahn to clean house. It will be easier to start with a new staff since they need a complete overhaul from the ground up. They better get a grip with the disapline issues quick.

I though the barn may ask him to keep some assistants to avoid the buyout. I also thought he might keep some offensive assistants since he hired most of them with Chiz's help four years ago.

Well even with this being auburn, I think he made a great choice. It will be fun to watch this unfold. See who the new Offensive & Defensive Co-ordinatiors will be. RTR!

Good, "fire" is the proper word, CP. "Released" sounds like they just got out of jail.
