61  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: Game notes: MTSU vs Bama on: September 04, 2023, 08:30:02 AM
Glad to see you back HSC. A good game summary as usual. I expected Milroe to start but I expected Simpson first on the bench. The coaches must think Milroe is the guy, or we would have seen more of the backups.

I was disappointed with the OL. Protection was not good and open running lanes were hard to find. Texas will be much better up front than MTSU. MTSU was bringing 6 rushers often daring Milroe to beat them with his arm.

I am glad football season is back!

As a couple approaches the altar, the groom tells his wife-to-be, "Honey, I've got something to confess: I'm a golf nut, and every chance I get, I'll be playing golf!"

"Since we're being honest," replies the bride, "I have to tell you that I'm a hooker."

The groom replies, "That's okay, honey. You just need to learn to keep your head down and your left arm straight.”

My two cents:

Offensive
1. QB is the question mark here. I think Milroe gets the start, but my guess is Simpson will win the job. I think he is the better passer. We just need one of them to step up and play well.
2. Running backs are solid.
3. This could be the best OL group we have had in several years.
4. Receiver have to step up. We need all of them to make plays but we need one to step up as the Alpha and one as the keep the drive alive possession receiver.

Defense
1. I think the inside LB's will be better than the last few years. D. Lawson needs to become a Rueben Foster type LB.
2. DL will be improved with good depth.
3. Secondary will not see much of a drop off even though we lost several starters from last year.
4. Pass rush will be better. Hopefully we can get it with just 4 but Steele can get creative with blitz packages if needed.
5. Kevin Steele is a big improvement as DC.

Special teams will be solid with a potential first team All-American as placekicker.

John Metchie #8. His hit on the Florida defensive back after an interception in the 2020 SEC Championship was epic.

I think that is an Admin function that only SC can control.

Bryce Young #9. Heisman winner, great player, good teammate, and overall good guy.

Who is the toughest #9.... Freddie Kitchens. I have never seen a QB take so many hard hits and continue to get up and keep going.

Had an early, full day yesterday, so I played hooky from CRS, but I'm back for Hump Day.

 Hump Day

My choices come down to Mac and A.J.. A.J. had attitude. I liked it, plus he brought us 2 Natties. As much as I loved Mac, I'll have to go with A.J. by a hair.

One of my favorite players that wore #10 is the original wishbone QB Terry Davis.

Well #11 is up now. Lemanski Hall was a good #11. RTR!

One of my favorite players of any number is Mike Shula. Gary Rutledge was a close 2nd.

Namath, Snake, McElroy, Croyle, Trammell....

So many to choose from and I still may be forgetting some. I had always been fond of Namath until those stupid Medicare commercials that hurt very many of our agents' clients. I think Stabler is probably my favorite of all these.

A lot of history in the #12. Although I never saw him play, I did see him coach. I am going with the "the other end" Paul Bear Bryant.

Thirteen days until kickoff.

It is hard to not go with Tua but I am going with another Bama legend George Teague.

71  Around Campus / Ferguson Student Center / Re: ***CRIMSON RED DAILY THREAD*** on: August 19, 2023, 02:23:15 PM

As much as I loved Jake Coker and Steve Sloan, Richard Todd had to be my favorite #14.

In addition to the names you mentioned Tyler Watts and Gary Hollingsworth were good players who wore #14.

I am going with Jake Coker. He only started for one year but what a year he had.
72  Around Campus / Ferguson Student Center / Re: ***CRIMSON RED DAILY THREAD*** on: August 18, 2023, 11:28:13 AM
My favorite # 15 is Jeff Rutledge. He was a 3 year starter at QB winning the championship in 1978. If you look up his stats you will not be impressed because he mainly handed off or tossed the ball from the wishbone set. He spent 14 years in the pros as a backup QB winning 2 Super Bowls.

Just to be different Kenyan Drake.

Storms came through here in SC last night, knocking out the power twice. My condo is 2 story and the upstairs is warmer than downstairs, especially when the AC isn't running. Going back and forth between the couch and my bed was not very conducive to sleep. Ugh!

Don't remember Bama having too many #18s, but Slade Bolden was a good one, so I'll go with him.

Happy 2's Day

Not a lot of # 18's come to mind. I will go with Ricky Tucker. A defensive back and team captain on the 78 & 79 Championship teams under Bear Bryant.

It is hard to go against Jeremiah Castille, but my pick is Reggie Ragland.
