"I think if you have a guy like that, it does create a lot of problems for the defense," Saban said. "I think that as we go forward in the future, that we'd like to have that kind of quarterback as well. But we're still a pro-style type of offense. We really don't want to go into the spread and have a running quarterback because the downside of that is when you lose that guy, because of the exposure he has, do you have enough guys that can go in there and play at the same level he can play?"

The same can be said for the pro style QB as well.

Maybe so, if your O-line is from Savannah State.  A good O-line should keep the QB healthy.
But a running QB is much more likely to get crushed numerous times a game.
Easy to understand why LSU (and others) have a few option plays in their offensive scheme, even when the QB isn't very mobile.  Personally I'd rather have a game manager who hands off or throws, then watches the game.

I'd like a QB who is mobile enough that defense has to keep an eye on him.  If a mobile QB adds say three first downs per game, that's about 5-mins of possession.  I'll take that.

I agree with McBaman because a QB who can run keeps the defense on their toes even if he never runs. The one time he does run then the field is wide open because the "D" quits checking him so much. I have to say that I like the one that fits the mold of the team. RTR!

There is a big difference in a read option QB and a pro set QB that can scrabble and keep plays alive. It is very rare a QB like Cam Newton and Tebow can run the ball as much as they did and not get injured. A pro style QB is running to keep a play alive and looking to get out of bounds or slide before they take a hit.

I like our offense. We are balanced and present a lot of problems for any defense. We averaged almost 40 points a game last year and almost 500 yards of offense. If we get better red zone play this year we will be unstoppable.

Well said.....everyone wants to do this or that, spread or HUNH, or whatever fad offense of the moment is..blah blah blah, but if you look at our offense last year we piled up a lot of offense and scored a pile of points with what we do.  And, not to mention the fact that we have won 3 national titles in recent years with our "boring" offense...If it ain't broke, don't fix it.  With the said, put the best player at QB, regardless of style, and cater to his strengths with offensive game planning.

We have never been flashy except Joe Willie was here or maybe during the Italian Stallion days. I have noticed one thing that is really flashy while CNS has been here, all the rings these guys are piling up. RTR!
