The only real problem with Coleman is that seating is so spread out. It's great when it's full, but when 5,000 people show up it looks deserted. Only the elite programs like Kentucky, Duke, MSU, etc. are going to consistently draw huge crowds for games against teams like Winthrop. Most schools would be happy to draw that many for Winthrop, but due to the size and layout of Coleman it looks pathetic when 5,000 people are there.
I don't know if there's a way early in the season to move everyone down to the closer seats and perhaps even somehow hide the empty seats up top to give the appearance of a fuller crowd. The problem again is going to be the money people who pay high prices for their seats not wanting their section overrun with the riff-
I do still believe that if CAJ builds this early momentum into an elite program 2-3 years down the road, people will come, even for games against Winthrop. Coleman may not be full for those games, but we'll see 10,000 people instead of 5,000. I think this year it will be full for most of the SEC games.
That's because all of the lower seats have been sold as season tickets and are no shows and the tickets being sold are at the very top of Coleman working down. In the Grant years, they would announce around the 10 minute mark in the game for all the folks at the top to move down to the lower seats but that hasn't been the case so far this year. I don't understand why they sell the available tickets starting at the top and work down, I would think it would be the opposite.
