West Virginia finalized an agreement this week with the Big East that will allow the school to play in the Big XII beginning this fall.
"I thought we could have been in the SEC," Manchin said. "I talked to my dear friend Nick Saban about that, and, like me, he said, 'I would like West Virginia in the SEC,' and we were working toward that."
Lobbied sounds like a strong word, particularly since this is the first we are hearing about it. Mabye Saban mentioned it to someone, who mentioned it to someone else. But lobbied? Nah, if he had pushed it would have at least made the press sooner.
