Bowl Games

Hey SC, something funky going on with the bowl scores. The last three finals for today are all wrong. The program has MSU winning and UGA and USCe losing. SIAP.

It looks like 3 more games will have this issue:

Oregon/Kansas State
Kent State/Arkansas State
Notre Dame/Alabama

The root cause of the problem is ESPN.  They have the home/away teams switched on a lot of the games.  For example, they have Alabama listed as the home team when it should be Notre Dame.  When the score updates come in, the message that WALL-E gets looks something like "the home team has 28 points now".  Since the teams are switched WALL-E puts the 28 points down for the real home team, not the home team that ESPN has listed.  I will know better next year and will make sure our home team matches ESPN, even if it is wrong.  Or maybe have some code to detect this and watch out for it so we can keep the listed home team correct on our contest.

I could fix this now, but I would have to switch everyone's picks on the games that are messed up.  I don't want to take a chance on messing up someone's picks so I just wait until the game is over and then put in the correct score.  This updates the contest to the correct result too.  So there is a little while from the time the game ends until I fix the score where the results are wrong.  I know it is annoying, but it would be even more annoying if I messed up the picks that everyone entered.  Even if I didn't mess up the picks, I introduce the possibility that someone could get confused and think that I messed up their pick and there would be no good way for me to double check.

I just figured out an easy way to make this a little better.  I figured out a way to turn off the automatic score updates for just the remaining 3 games that are going to be wrong.  So now those 3 games will not have a score listed at all until I go in and update it manually.  It does no good to have real time score updates for these games if they are going to be incorrect.  I've gotten spoiled this year with all of the automatic score updates, but the manual entry is actually the way I did it last year.

Amen. Ya'll done some show nuff choosing. Next year I expect the same out of all of you. I thing for sure, I got closer to the bottom than anybody. rofl, RTR!

I just finished double checking all of the bowl game scores and everything is correct.  I will WALL-E hand out the prizes.  I think I said that the bowl round will count for 4 times as many e-creds as a normal round since there were almost 4 times as many games.  The easiest way for me to do this will just have WALL-E give out the normal e-creds 4 times in a row.  This will show up as 4 different posts from WALL-E, but hopefully it won't be too confusing.

This is for the Bowl Games.  I will do the overall round separately once I go back and see how many e-creds we gave out last year.
