Watching the draft I think it was a bad idea for Vinnie and Pagan to go pro. Both would have been better with another year.

I agree but some of the players here that $ amount and then some think that greater than thou attitude and make bad decisions. I personally think every college player should be held accountable for 3 years of play. Then if they have matured as a responsible person then move on. JMHO. RTR!

Perhaps. I guarantee you that the Saints didn't draft Vinnie because they thought he had amazing coverage skills. Though he probably won't even come close to his ability, I imagine Vinnie as a Jack Tatum-esque DB, knocking the crap out of people and pulling down an interception here or there.

I think he makes his mark on special teams.

Too many underclassmen going in to the NFL draft that are not ready. Vinnie will most likely make a team for his special team skills and work ethic but he will not see the field at safety for several years if ever. He should have stayed. The same with Pagan, Hubbard and Cyrus K. They are not ready for the NFL. They were not that good in college.

He'll be a special teams beast and backup Kenny Vacarro, another hard hitter with suspect coverage skills.  I don't think Vinnie would have gone much higher if he'd stayed for another year.

Bingo!! They definitely left too early. I really believe Pagan could have been a 2nd rounder with more experience.

NFL teams will usually draft a good player with raw talent even if he's a year or two away from being NFL ready. Personally I think Bama's better off without guys who aren't willing to put int the work needed to get better and improve their draft stock.

CNS was interviewed at the draft and he talked about too many underclassmen entering the draft that were not ready. He said colleges could develop players better than the NFL, mainly because of playing time.

I agree.  Vinnie is not a guy with a lot of raw, undeveloped talent.  He is a guy who has maximized the ability he has with football smarts.

In other news, USC had three underclassmen go early -- they were not drafted.

102 under classmen came out in this year’s draft. After the three “money rounds,” only 41 had been selected. Much of the remaining 61 were probably certain they’d hear their names called. 38 of the 102 did not get drafted.

I hope this sends a message to these young men but I doubt it, ego only has three letters in it but it's a very big word in the sports world. Wink

It's been a problem in football and basketball for years, and I doubt it will change any time soon.  I wish the NCAA would change the rules so that a player can make himself draft eligible but have the option of coming back if he doesn't get drafted on the condition that he hasn't signed with an agent or received any impermissible benefits.
