I think it depends on the college. When I was at Bama in the late 1990s, you couldn't purchase alcohol. At South Alabama, though, I could get a beer at basketball games.

In theory, I don't have a problem with purchasing alcohol at games, but I think that much of problem lies in vendors who don't always follow the rules for how much a fan is allowed to have. Throw into the mix that many start drinking before they get into the gates, and are then allowed to purchase more inside, and you have a recipe for a problem. I don't think that keeping alcohol out is the solution; I personally have been to a few Orioles games, and I love kicking back during a summer game and having a cold beer. Unfortunately there are just not enough people out there who can police themselves.
South Alabama sold beer at basketball games?  That's one I didn't know.

It may depend on the venue.  It is illegal to sell alcohol on Alabama State property (except ABC stores).  Did South Alabama play in a private stadium?

At Bryant-Denny, you can have alcohol (without sneaking it) in the stadium if you pay for the privilege, and if you bring it in before gameday.  In the Zone, located in the North and South End Zones, members are assigned a locker where they can keep personal items, including alcohol.  There even is a "pouring room," separate from the public, complete with mixers, lemon/lime slices, glasses and ice.  There appeared to be a bartender as well, but I didn't check into it in great detail.  Members with skyboxes also are permitted to have alcohol in their skybox.

You see alcohol sales at bowl games because they're in pro stadiums.  They had alcohol at the Bama v. Michigan game, both times I attended.  Some college stadiums have alcohol sales as a revenue booster, but the SEC doesn't permit it.  Apparently, 22 of the 120 major college stadiums have alcohol sales, with Minnesota, Syracuse and West Virginia being the most prominent.  Click here for link

Football, yes. They play at Ladd-Peebles, which is owned (I think) by the city of Mobile. Basketball (where I got my beer) was at an on campus facility. Believe me, I was just as surprised as you to find out I could get a cool one at a school building.

This is a BR link but the lady has apologized and stated that she was NOT drunk. She was defending her 16 year old son from some classless fans: http://bit.ly/1lHGxvY

And yes, she went over the top with it and I'm not saying she was correct in her actions.

See this story over in Wall-E. Appears to be a difference of opinion on what happened, and some issues with how mom and son were acting prior to the event.

On the question of her intoxication, video evidence doesn't lie.

Regardless of what happened the lady did not set a very good example for her son. Sometimes, even if you are right, it is better to just walk away.

If she was in the right why was she escorted out why the Sooner boys were allowed to stay?

I like Mark Childress' explanation:

Quote
On the one hand, she uses that wonderfully time-honored explanation of her behavior: "I was not drunk. I had had a couple of drinks. But I was not drunk." On the other hand, she's not embarrassed to think that her friends and family have seen her go wild-cat-tearin'-spittin-and-kickin into the children who were trash-talking her children at the game. She is, however, embarrassed to think that Coach Saban might see it. This is yet another reason why my mother always insisted the title Crazy in Alabama was redundant.
