I thought Ole Miss & Mississippi State fans were delusional, but this takes the cake.

Quote
Peyton Manning has yet to make an announcement about whether he will keep playing in 2016, and that could be because he is still trying to decide.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Manning wants to play another season.

I still think he retires, if not, he joins a long list of superstars who hung around too long and embarrassed themselves. Guys like Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, Joe Louis, Muhammed Ali, Joe Namath, Emmitt Smith, Patrick Ewing, Sugar Ray Leonard, Ken Stabler, Steve Carlton, & many more.

Peyton just won the Super Bowl.  Hard to say he is embarrassing himself.

I don't think any of those other guys embarrassed themselves either, they fought to do the thing they loved for a long as they could.

As an older guy I can appreciate that.   Wink

Still, with his past injuries and surgeries, Peyton knows he is taking a huge gamble if he keeps playing.  And sometimes you have to know when to hang up the cleats.

He just won the Super Bowl but he needs to go out on top. He was very fortunate this year to have a very good team around him. He still has his football IQ but his skills have left him. Time to retire.

If he wants to stay in football, he should do it as a coach or in the booth. As you said, he still has his football IQ and has a lot to offer the game. Just not as a player.

Am I the only one who thinks he's waiting for this UT Title-9 crap to calm down before he retires?
He doesn't want it to appear that he retired in shame, or that he quit to avoid association with the UT mess.
I expect him to wait until the last day (March 11?) to announce.

That's a very good point, I hadn't thought of that. Very well could be.

Unfortunately, Archie never even reached the middle, much less the top.

I guess you never saw a 42 year old Willie Mays fall flat of his face while chasing a simple fly ball or tripping and looking awful just running to first base. Or saw Hank Aaron hit 12, then 10 homers in consecutive years while hitting a wonderful .230 or so batting average. Or Ali getting pounded relentlessly in his later fights. Like I said, they embarrassed themselves.

I remember this MD and it was awful. I would think that when the end of the game comes and somebody says " I'm going to Disneyland." They would actually do it. RTR!

I have been wondering how that's playing into it as well.  I don't think he wants to have that end his career or be the last thing people remember about him.

If the Broncos don't drop him by March 9th, he gets something like $16 mil in guaranteed money. I really don't see them keeping him & who would then want a nearly 40 year old, beat up QB?
