Sources: Alabama DB coach to step down
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- The shakeup on Nick Saban's staff at Alabama will continue as Greg Brown is expected to step down as defensive backs coach to clear the way for Kevin Steele to transition from his role as director of player personnel to an on-field position coaching linebackers, sources told ESPN.

Defensive coordinator Kirby Smart will shift from coaching linebackers to the secondary to make way for Steele's move. Steele, according to ESPN, was offered the Louisville defensive coordinator job but turned it down to remain with Saban in Tuscaloosa.

I really like this move. Our DB's did not develop and improve during the course of the season like I expected. Kirby Smart will go back to coaching the DB's with CNS help. Steele will leave his office job to get back on the field with the OLB's.

The defensive staff should look like this:

Bo Davis  DL
Lance Thompson  ILB
Kevin Steele  OLB
Kirby Smart  DC/DB
Nick Saban   HC/DB

I'm thrilled with the reshuffling of the defensive coaches.  I wonder if Greg Brown will leave the university or move to fill Kevin Steele's now vacated position of director of player personnel?

I like this move because it is almost where Alabama built their base when CNS arrived. We have great defense players and I am ready to see what happens next year. RTR!

I would think that you could look at Colorado's defense and know this coach is not the top quality ini coaching. He may however be a great man but coaching is the name of the game here at Alabama. RTR!

Someone refresh my memory about Kevin Steele. He was here, then left, then came back. Did he go to UT with Sunseri? What was his previous position at Alabama?

 Huh?

He was DC in 2007 at Bama before Kirby.

Steele went to Clemson as the DC for Dabo. West Virginia put up about 70 points on them in a bowl game and Dabo fired him.

Steele was a LB at FSU for Bowden. CNS hired him as DC when he came to Alabama in 2007. He was on the Bama staff for two years before taking the Clemson job.
