There are now 21 allegations into the football program, eight are new. Ole Miss has also been charged with a lack of institutional control.

"The charge replaces the more limited failure to monitor charge in the January 2016 Notice of Allegations," Ross Bjork, Ole Miss' athletic director, said. "This is charged as a Level I violation that we will contest."

Ole Miss received its original notice of allegations on Jan. 30 2016. There were 13 violations tied to the football program. Four were tied to former coach Houston Nutt, while the rest occurred under Hugh Freeze's tenure.

Ole Miss issuing a self imposed bowl ban for 2017. The NCAA of old would laugh in their face. Will be interesting to see what they do now.

And how does the AD still have a job?

Quote
The rest of the violations in the prior notice dealt with women's basketball and track and field. The NCAA handed down those penalties in October and separated those cases from the football program.

 Huh?

Here's the ESPN story with a little more insight...

MD has a point about "how does the AD still have a job."  He probably won't have one much longer.

But now, it has to be asked:  Where is the Univ President and the B of T's??  If they weren't into this already, they gotta get in now.

Indeed, more detail.

In a 154-page response to the NCAA, Ole Miss announced it had self-imposed the loss of 11 total scholarships in football over a four-year period from 2015-18, including a reduction of three initial scholarships in each of its next three recruiting classes, which would allow the school to sign a maximum of 22 players in each class.

And their two wins over Bama will almost certainly be vacated.

Talk about slapping themselves on the wrist. Expect a loss of 20-25 scholarships over 3 years, not four. The NCAA will be mad about their arrogance about 11 scholly's over 4 years.

Are you hearing anything about it, Chech?

A bit.  Most Ole Miss folks weren't surprised by the loss of post-season games (which was offered as a 'self-imposed penalty), but are disappointed in the wording "lack of institutional control".  They maintain that these were isolated, not widespread violations.  They also point at Louisville's sex scandal with recruits and ask, 'why didn't they get similar penalties?'.

A buddy told me they expected more from the Tunsil issues, which apparently involved a messy family dispute and a lot of people who refused to provide information.  There isn't much new beyond what was known 2 years ago.

As per the firing of the AD, as I recall he wasn't hired until after much of this took place.  The Chancellor who was in charge during the violations retired several years ago, and his replacement only stayed about a year.

I wonder how Freeze still has his job.  None of the charges point to him directly, but ... he was the Head Coach, and he was the one who denied any wrongdoing (on national media).  Previously everyone tried to put the blame on Houston Nutt.

Ole Miss is appealing the "lack of control" charge.  They'll lose that prolly.

This is more of the horrid publicity that Ole Miss can expect. How long can the AD, President, & Freeze hold on? Freeze makes $5 mil a year! Chancellor been there since 2015 & has appeared weak in this mess, AD there since 2012.

Quote
The NCAA is coming hard for Freeze, charging his Ole Miss football program with serious cheating allegations, the school with lack of institutional control and the head coach personally for unsatisfactory oversight of his assistants, who are charged with carrying out blatantly illicit violations, not “mistakes” as Freeze once attempted to characterize them.

This sounds like it is going to get worse and sadder for the OM fans. I am glad we have a coach who will recruit and play the game by the rules because it almost killed us when we went through the years of penalties. RTR!

I learned the specifics this morning.  Several local businesses involved, as well as several local citizens.

Looks like I retired just in time!
