If you were hiring a college head coach who would you go after and why?  To make it more interesting CNS is off the table.

I'd pick you-- but I am afraid it may disrupt the Sunday notes. CKS is a hot commodity but that is assuming they are looking for a up and coming rather than a proven HC. Also, CKS would fit better in the SEC as opposed to the PAC12. We need more info hsc.

Depends on the Confrence to me.

If I am in the Pac 10..I would go for an O guy, nobody like D out there.

The SEC You got to go after a coach like Kirby Smart or at least a O guy and make sure he has a great D cord.

Leach would be interesting to me, but i don't think he even cares about D which would worry me.

If I thought Urban was past his demons or whatever, he'd probably be my choice.

If I was a major program going after the best available coach and CNS is off limits:

1. Chris Peterson
2. Bob Petrino
3. Pete Carroll

A small school like UAB I would be looking at South Alabama Coach Joey Jones.

Here is a guy you've probably watched hsc. Paul Pasqualoni (sp?) is being wasted at UCONN.

As much as I hate to admit it, with CNS off the table, I would have to go with Lester.

If I were AD looking for a HC, I'd start hunting defensive assistants in the pros. Let him hire some local recruiting talent for his staff-- start recruiting and building a "D" starting with fundamentals. I'm not sure I wouldn't at least think about running the triple option offense for a couple years while building a "D".

I know who I would go after for a OC. David Cutcliffe
I know he is a head coach but for the right amount of money. He is the best QB coach out there. IMHO

I think the conf you are in would be a factor.  I do like Mike Gundy, but not sure he could cut it in the SEC.  I can't go with Mile just because of what I know about him and how he treated Colt David.

I am pretending that I just took Mal Moore's job and Alabama needs a new head coach.

Being that Alabama is so highly regarded in college football legacy with a background of 13 National Championships, I would want to hire a coach that could handle the pressure of having to win national championships not someone that can win games.

There are two that stand out to me and they are Chris Petersen and Gary Patterson. Given the fact that both coaches are at smaller programs, their ability to take their teams to a much higher level and compete with the major BCS schools says wonders to what I would be looking for. I feel that either of them could take Alabama's program and could compete annually for the BCSNC.

Now if Bama for some reason spiraled downward and was looking for a good young coach to rebuild the program back to national prominence, Kirby Smart would be at the top of that list. In all fairness to Kirby, he needs to take a job at a school that has a history of a good program but is struggling at the time and rebuild it back just for the experience of doing so. Schools, like the better teams in the SEC, is not the place to get a coaching education, they are looking for coaches with experience that can come in have instant success in the championship battles.

All I really know about Pasqualoni is that he did not have much success at Syracuse, however, my BIL played football under him at Southern Connecticut several years ago and says he's a very good coach.

Good list, but Carroll is a pro guy. Petrino may be settled in, unless someone like Alabama, USC, Notre Dame, Oklahoma came calling. How about:

Petersen
Al Golden (Miami)
Mike Gundy (Oklahoma State)
Kevin Sumlin (Houston)
Brian Billick (former Ravens HC)
