If we end up with a foursome, the blues. If it's just Frank and I, prolly the whites.

As a rookie making cuts is important. He still needs to get his card. Because he qualified for the US Open and made the cut he gets to advance to the second round at Q School. That will help. If he can get in a few more tournaments and make the cut he could get his card by being high enough on the money list.

The blues would be about my max. My handicap tells me to play the blues but I enjoy the whites more. I don't like having to hit driver - hybird on every hole. I occasionally want a short iron shot.

He's in contention now.

Yeah, the blues are a bit of a stretch for me. I hit a drive 220-230 when I'm loose and swinging well. Occasionally, I'll hit one 250-260, but rare. What I do well is consistently hit my drives in the fairway with a slight draw, which is good, because I'm always in play. My iron game is ok and my short game is either good or horrible. I live and die by the short game, which most people do.

You and I hit the ball about the same length. I hit a slight fade. I am very straight. When I miss a green I am normally close. I depend on a lot of 1 putts. I am a low 80's golfer, sometimes better, sometimes worse.

Bud is playing with Vijay Singh tomorrow.  BTW, another Alabama player, Jason Bohn, missed the cut.  Also, Lee Janzen's wife is an Alabama grad and Kevin Streelman's wife is from Tuscaloosa.  Streelman is -11 after shooting 63 and Janzen is -2 after a tough 75 today.  Lee Janzen's agent is the uncle of the Bama men's golf assistant coach.

Sounds like you're a few strokes better than me. I'm about a 14 handicap. I'm guessing you're around a 10. My knees usually dictate how well I play (plus how good the beer is);  Grin

Ok, pmull, since you are the better golfer, at least on paper, give me a "Tip for the day" that I can take to the golf course this morning. (Preferrably one pertaining to the short game). If it helps, I'll give you 3 e-creds (an hour apart) when I return.  Kiss

1. You may do this already. When around the green I use an 8 iron to chip rather than a wedge. Of course this only applies if loft is not required like going over a sand trap. I like to get the ball on the green and left the chip roll out like a putt. I can control the distance better this way. A short wedge shot is easy to "chilly dip". By all means keep you head down. A short chip is the easiest to look up on.

2. Don't make stupid mistakes. If you get in trouble take your medicene and get the ball back in play. Accept a bogey and go to the next hole. Bogeys are OK. You can not over double bogeys.

It is easier to give tips to someoe you have seen play.

Hope this helps and I will hang up and listen. Have a good round.

Thanks. The 8 iron thing I already do, but with a 7 iron. I hit it like a putt and usually have pretty good results if there is enough green to work with. I'll use an 8 iron today in your honor.

I would not change if you are comfortable with a 7 iron. The man that showed me this when I was learning to play recommended the 7 or which ever club you are comfortable with. I like the extra loft the 8 has but that is me.

I put it the ball back in my stance, It is easier for me to make solid contact. I don't come up short as much this way.

Imagine every single putt going in the hole. Don't just lag to get close, but envision your putt going in. This is much like you do when shooting pool. HTH
