One of the Deep South's top-rated defensive lineman has transferred to Foley High, but not without sparking controversy. Darius Paige -- a 6-foot-3, 275-pound Alabama commitment who previously played at Washington High in Pensacola -- completed his transfer to Foley on Tuesday and watched the Lions' evening practice.

It's unclear if Paige will immediately meet eligibility requirements to play this season, said Foley coach Todd Watson. He said he contacted the AHSAA office and asked them to investigate the move and authorize whether Paige will be cleared to play this fall.

"I know 100 percent that we did nothing wrong," Watson said...

This is what I posted in the daily thread:

"First I've heard of it, but here is what I do know. Washington High is a poor academic school in Pensacola and isn't renown for it's athletics, even though it is where Derrick Brooks and Roy Jones Jr. attended high school. Foley High, on the other hand, is noted for it's academics and has a pretty fair football history. Kenny Stabler, Julio, DJ Fluker and Robert Lester all attended Foley High School.It's not even an hour away from Pensacola, so it's not a big leap. I'm not too worried about this one."

This controversy is not about his commitment to Alabama. It is about his transfer to Foley and if he and his family meet the relocation requirements of the AHSAA to be eligible to play football this year. The school can not recruit him and he and his family have to live in the Foley school district. This goes on all the time with less high profile players and regular students. There has been many kids relocate and transfer to play for a particular school or coach. It happens a lot on the academics side as well.

Our concern is that he gets to play this year and continue to develop so he will be ready to play when he comes to Bama. He also has to get there and make sure his grades and ACT meet all requirements.
