<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tubbDF0kZY4" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tubbDF0kZY4</a>

ESPN has been airing this commercial (of a kid making a great hit on the runner).
But he leads with his helmet.  True, he hits the runner's sternum, not the head, but after the deaths this weekend's I found it a bit surprising that they still aired the commercial today!

Wow.

They actually teach kids to lead with their helmets these days, just not helmet-to-helmet.

A helmet to the sternum is the perfect tackle in today's teaching.

It's football. I saw nothing wrong with it. Nice form tackle.

Ok

 Tinfoil Hat

Just thought a kid lowering his head upon contact, as this one did, invited injury.

It will get him a starting position on most teams.

Maybe they should do away with face masks, that might reduce the usage of their heads so much. Wink

I've often wonder if they might be better off going back to leather helmets for that very reason.

We discussed this ad nauseum a year or 2 ago on CRS, W, or TS...

Yeah, that was more than 5 minutes ago, so I had to dig deep.

I do remember. I think I posed the question about whether or not a study had ever been conducted to determine if Rugby players, who don't wear helmets, had more concussions or less, than American football players. I can't remember, however, if that was ever determined.

I believe a commentator or older coach may have made the suggestion in the press of going back to no face mask, and we discussed it here.
