AUBURN, Ala. -- It was Gus Malzahn's call.
With one second remaining before what should have been overtime in the Iron Bowl, Malzahn called a timeout to ice Alabama kicker Adam Griffith before his 57-yard attempt at a game-winning field-goal. He also decided to replace safety Ryan Smith with cornerback Chris Davis in the back of the end zone -- just in case Griffith's kick came up short.
What happened next was perfectly in line with the magical season transpiring on the Plains.
