Police: Singer Amy Winehouse dies at age 27

LONDON (AP) -- Amy Winehouse, the beehived soul-jazz diva whose self-destructive habits overshadowed a distinctive musical talent, was found dead Saturday in her London home, police said. She was 27.

Winehouse shot to fame with the album "Back to Black," whose blend of jazz, soul, rock and classic pop was a global hit. It won five Grammys and made Winehouse - with her black beehive hairdo and old-fashioned sailor tattoos - one of music's most recognizable stars.

Police confirmed that a 27-year-old female was pronounced dead at the home in Camden Square northern London; the cause of death was not immediately known. London Ambulance Services said Winehouse had died before the two ambulance crews it sent arrived at the scene.


I wasn't a fan.

That is young, my daughter turned just 26 last Sunday.

Everything I read about her led me to believe this was going to happen, sooner than later. She had been on a self-destructive path for a long time.

Oh yea, she had warrants for her arrest in California for drugs and didn't even attend the Grammy's when she won so many.

Last month, Winehouse canceled her European comeback tour after she swayed and slurred her way through barely recognizable songs in her first show in the Serbian capital of Belgrade. Booed and jeered off stage, she flew home and her management said she would take time off to recover.

I wonder how many 24 hr. news talking heads will be bragging about calling this train wreck. DA Bill O'Reilly immediately comes to mind. Even us sidewalk reporters saw this coming.

Wow. The curse of 27. Do you read Blush a lot?  Just kidding.  This may point to the fact that these people are surrounded with "Yes" men/women and in this industry there may not be anyone with the character/courage to tell them to stop before it is too late.

Great find, CP. Apparently the body does undergo change at 27. I can remember that all my life until then, I had to run around in the rain to get wet, because I was so skinny. But at 27, I started gaining weight and had to work hard to control it. Now, it controls me.
