Thanks. With Amber Jack and Gag Grouper being off limits, it REALLY took the total weight limit down. That was right at 300lbs of fish, I have been on 12 hour trips with > 600lbs, total haul. Grouper stocks MAY be arguable, however, Amber Jacks ain't hurting any. If the FEDS really wanted to protect the fish, they would outlaw long lining by commercial fishermen.  ( I promise I will not not get on my soap box.)

I agree with you, Charter boats are not the problem with the fishing in the Gulf, commercial fishing is. If you don't mind telling, what did it cost the seven of you to go out.

Between the fee and tips (to the mate) I think  it was about $360 each.( There may have been a slight discount because the guy who set up the trip has known and fished with the Capt since the early 90's.)  Bait, and ice provided. This is the second time I have fished on this boat. It is a perfect set up, and the Capt is awesome! The mate from last year ( Capt's son) now runs his own boat, and I would not hesitate to fish with him either.  The mate from this year has been crewing for about 4 years and really knows his stuff, and is a very down to Earth, and likeable guy. (Now the Capt's son in law). The boat is the Lady J II out of PSJ. His son's boat is the Southern Lady, same port. I'll post pics of the boats later, I have a sleepy lil' boy on my left arm right now, and it's making it hard to type one handed, LOL.

I just wondered with such a big catch if you sold them for some of the coverage of your expenses? It must be a lot of fun catching that kind of fish. I know here where we live if we catch a big catfish or a bunch of crappie we give them away or freeze a few but try not to let any ruin. RTR!
