TUSCALOOSA - On Military Appreciation Day at Sewell-Thomas Stadium, Adam Morgan came through like a warrior for the Alabama baseball team. The junior left-hander pitched a eight shutout innings Saturday as the Crimson Tide defeated LSU 4-0 to even a key three-game series at one victory each. The series concludes with a 1:05 p.m. game Sunday. The Tide bounced back from a 10-6 loss Friday night. With every loss, it has been barely staying in contention for a berth in the eight-team SEC tournament. With every victory, Alabama (29-20, 11-12 in the Southeastern Conference) stays close to the SEC Western Division lead. It pulled one game behind first-place Arkansas, which played host to Florida on Saturday night. Morgan (5-4) delivered a sterling performance, holding LSU to eight hits before he was pulled in the ninth inning after the first two LSU batters reached base on a walk and a single. The no-hitter was her third of the season as she blanked Jacksonville State and South Carolina. Alabama was paced at the plate by junior Jazlyn Lunceford as the outfielder batted 2-for-2 with three runs scored. Freshman Kaila Hunt and sophomore Courtney Conley each drove in a pair and as a team the Tide swiped seven bases and banged out nine hits. Click here for link

It's not like Nick Saban needed much help in landing top recruiting classes. However, in a clear case of the rich getting richer, the recent NFL draft has given Saban even more ammunition for landing top talent in Tuscaloosa. Imagine him, sat in the living room in the house of a good offensive lineman, talking to his parents. "I'm sure I don't have to tell you how many of our linemen progress to the NFL, do I? Are you aware that our past two left tackles went in the first round of the NFL draft?" Or in the living room of a highly-rated running back? "You know, our running backs rarely stay for their senior season, since the NFL snaps them up. Click here for link

STARKVILLE, Miss. - The Alabama baseball team completed a Southeastern Conference doubleheader road sweep at Mississippi State with a 5-4 win in the night cap on Saturday from Dudy Noble Field. With the sweep on Saturday, Alabama has won nine straight games and six consecutive series against the Bulldogs. "I'm really proud of our team," UA head coach Mitch Gaspard said. HURT: We are all on the same team now |

Gene Stallings grilled hamburgers for first responders in Forest Lake. Anthony Grant set up a charitable foundation, then rolled up his sleeves and went to work helping a family save its possessions. The Alabama baseball team worked to clear debris in Beverly Heights on Thursday, then spent a weary Friday night in New Albany, Miss., before taking a morale-boosting win at Mississippi State. Greg McElroy, amid the tears of a joyful family as he was chosen by the New York Jets in the NFL Draft, reminded America via ESPN to remember Tuscaloosa. James Carpenter, the first-round selection of the Seattle Seahawks, immediately e-mailed athletic department officials and asked how he could help Tuscaloosa. All-Pro DeMeco Ryans took a truckload of supplies and love into Pleasant Grove, the devastated community near his Bessemer home Friday. On Saturday, he did the same for his second home, Tuscaloosa, even though the outpouring of support at Temporary Emergency Services had already filled their facility to overflowing. HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Jared Reaves had a career-high four hits, Brock Bennett added three knocks and Alabama pounded out 15 hits as a team in a 7-3 non-conference road win over No. 15 ranked Southern Mississippi on Tuesday night from Pete Taylor Stadium. The 15 hits marked the second highest total of the season for the Crimson Tide, which improves to 26-18 overall. The loss drops the Golden Eagles record to 30-10 for the year. "This was our best offensive night in a while," UA head coach Mitch Gaspard said. "We got some big hits and some timely hits, but even through all that, we had other opportunities to extend the lead. We've been looking for offensive pressure through nine innings, and we got that tonight. This is a really good midweek win over a really good Southern Miss team." The 15 hits by the Tide were three off the season-high of 18 against Eastern Illinois back on March 12. It also marked the 18th time this season the Tide topped the 10-hit mark. Click here for link
