I'm considering...considering...pulling for the Braves.  A piece of me would like to see Larry Wayne have a nice going away prize.

Now that's the spirit, HL, lol! I feel bad that your Dodgers didn't make it in, but they've got a good nucleus going into next year. They've just got to find some chemistry.

I'm trying to remember how the Dodgers fell apart. Did they suffer major injuries or have guys with nagging injuries? Also, is their manager on the hotseat?

 Huh?

I'm much more hopeful and excited going into next year than I was this year.  We really had a bad offensive line-up at the beginning of the year.  The chemistry seemed to come around the last couple weeks after being lost around June.  They made a nice push (won 8 out of their last 10), but just couldn't close the gap.  But I think it will leave a better taste in everyone's mouths over the off season, and it will help the team chemistry/morale going into next year.

 Huh?

Several things.  At the beginning of the year they were really playing over their heads.  Their offensive line up was mediocre at best.  But Matt Kemp had a record setting April and pushed them to the best record in baseball after 30-40 games.  Then the injury bug hit.  Kemp went down for about 60 games overall and was never the same afterwards.  His hamstring limited him on the base paths and in the field, and now it has come out that he's requiring fairly serious shoulder surgery in the off season.  Of the starting five - Ted Lilly was lost for the year almost immediately.  Billingsley was hurting the first half of the year, finally healed up around the All-Star break, went on a 8-9 game tear and then was lost for the year to injury.  Clayton Kershaw battled plantar fasciatus (sp?) and a hip impingement most of the year.  That isn't much of an excuse though as he still led the MLB in ERA and WHIP (though only had a 14-9 record).  Overall, the Dodgers were second to only the Red Sox for DL assignments.

No, I don't think Mattingley is on the hot seat because he never really had the horses to compete this year until August.  If something catastrophic doesn't happen to prevent them from making a run next year, he will be on the hot seat if he doesn't make the postseason.

Wow! I did not know they had so many injuries. The Braves started the year off without Hudson (P), then they lost the major league leader in ERA (Beachey) for the year, plus off & on injuries for Chipper, Prado, McCann, Simmons, Hanson (P), Venters (P), Diaz for season, and Sheets (P). I am amazed the Braves still won 94 games losing pitchers for 15 games at a time and all the other injuries. Thanks for the Dodgers update. Don't forget to wear your Braves cap during the game today.

Well, the Braves have continued their 20 year history of choking the big one. They lost at HOME to St. Louis, an inferior team to Atlanta.

I agree but will wonder , without the "call" on the infield fly
what would have happened , maybe nothing and they still lost
but it will always be the "ump" game now ...
chances are the results would be the same , but ...

Yea, but look at the real side, Atlanta has been winning a lot. They may choke and lose out again but right now they are playing hard. RTR!

The really funny (and sad thing, at the same time) is that I have a cousin who is a Phillies fan, and she always gloats the next day when the Braves loose a game. She usually hushes up when I tell her to look up at the standings and see that the Braves still leade her Fillies by 6.5 games.

By the way, my other team, the O's, are only 2.5 back of the Red Sux.

I noticed CB. I think maybe to many injuries or maybe just need to make more team play. I hope it works out. RTR!

The pitching hasn't been so bad, and there aren't too many injuries, ricky. The problem is they can't hit right now. They have lost 5 of their last 7, in those 5 games they have only scored 9 runs. For a team that depends on scoring a lot of runs to win games, that ain't gonna get it done.  Angry
