The former Alabama football standout and "The Biggest Loser" contestant unsuccessfully auditioned for the hit reality television show, not once, but twice.
Then, "The Biggest Loser" called back.
“I said, ‘Well, I’m still fat, so let’s go for it,’” Shultz said.
Since it was a couples theme, producers wanted Shultz to be paired with a former teammate. Shultz thought Patterson, his roommate at UA, would make a great fit.
“Trent lives in New York and just had his first baby,” Shultz said. “I guess he thought I was calling to congratulate him. I said, ‘How much do you weigh?’ He said, ‘I’m about 420’ and I said, ‘Great!’”
Patterson and Shultz together weighed almost 800 pounds.
