I remember being on cloud 9 after that game. You just knew it was the start of something special, and it was.

I was at that Clemson game.  We stayed on the outskirts of town and took the MARTA in/out.  After the game the Clemson fans were humble.  The general consensus was that we had just hired a superstar of a coach that was going to lead us to the top, and their version of a Bowden had reached his ceiling and needed to hit the road.

Just as a comparison, the Virginia Tech fans the next year were complete jackasses.

That was the year Dabo took over for Tommy Bowden (2008).  We did them a real favor by whipping their upstart asses.

Tommy was still the coach for that game.

I know.  Dabo took over at midseason.

I remember that game like it was yesterday.  Bama entered a big underdog.

All the talk was about Clemson's "Fire and Lightening."  But Tommy Bowden fulfills his promise to a true freshman RB (heavily recruited) and lets him play Clemson's first snap.  Dont'a Hightower strips the football, and Bama goes up 6-0.

The other thing I remember was a video was "leaked" of Julio Jones catching a TD in practice.  So pre-game talk speculated on Bama's passing attack with Julio.  Instead, Bama mostly ran the football down Clemson's throat with Mark Ingram.

The first of many, many coaches that Saban had a hand in getting them fired, or making their a$$es quit.

And threw about a dozen passes to an unknown TE.  Killed them (like the UGA TE killed us in the SECCG).

I thought this is what started (or initiated) our current dynasty...

Shula was a fill-in while Bama was on sanctions.  He did his job -- kept the boat upright.

True.  I think it is sad that he had to do that for us though.  I think given the right time he might have done so much more for Bama than just being a place-holder...
