I looked at the scoring drives and looked at how many plays it took and how far they went.  This is only on drives that ended with a field goal or touchdown.
In game 1, Bama scored on 7 drives.  The average plays per drive was 5.28 plays and the average distance was 48.42 yards.
In game 2, Bama scored on 8 drives.  The average plays per drive was 6.75 plays and the average distance was 59.75 yards.
In game 3, Bama scored on 8 drives.  The average plays per drive was 5.75 plays and the average distance was 51.625 yards.
In game 4, Bama scored on 6 drives.  The average plays per drive was 5.1 plays and the average distance was 71.16 yards.
In game 5, Bama scored on 7 drives.  The average play per drive was 5.42 plays and the average distance was 65.14 yards.

I was looking at this because i was wondering if the defense was playing more plays because of Bama scoring so quickly.  However, it doesn't seem to be the case.  Bama, not counting kickoff, punt, punt returns, or PAT have played about the same number of plays on both sides of the ball.
Vs Louisville Bama ran 68 and defended 65
Vs Ark St Bama ran 73 and defended 82
Vs OM Bama ran 72 and defended 59
Vs A&M Bama ran 61 and defended 72
Vs LL Bama ran 62 and defended 58

Also, the defense has had to go back on the the field as Bama has scored on interception return, kickoff returns, punt returns, plus a blocked punt that gave the offense a short field.

Looking at these plays it seems we scored a lot quicker than it looked like we did in the games. Is this kind of true? RTR!

It is an average and we did score on some quick drives.  If my numbers are correct and combining the drives and yards, Bama is averaging 10.25 yards per play on scoring drives.

It has also got me to thinking since Bama is so effective in the passing game, will it help in the running game later in the season.  teams should be getting worried about the big play ability of the rec and be hesitant about loading the box.

That's what I've been saying, but teams just aren't backing off. Any idea why?

I guess they don't think they can stay consistent.

Good info Coach.  What were the average Time of possession for the drives in each game and overall?  Any idea what that would be?

Had to research.  If my calculations are correct the scoring drives average about 2:07.

We may have edged out Oregon for that record!

Those are pretty fast-paced drives.  How does that ToP compare with past years for our offenses?

That I don't know.  However, with the emphasis on the running game awhile controlling the clock I would imagine the average length of time of drives were significally higher.
