Interesting. Includes some coaches I wasn't aware of.

Quote
P.J. FLECK - WESTERN MICHIGAN
This one is the wild card — Fleck has proven that he's one hell of a coach at Western Michigan, and he's sure to move to a bigger, better job this offseason. But can he make the leap all the way to LSU? It seems like a stretch, but if he gets an interview, don't discount his ability to charm. Fleck's relentless positivity could go a long way in Baton Rouge.

You know I gotta think Herman may have a head on his shoulders and think hey fighting that grind everyday and every week recruiting, playing and finding the coaches, and playing in the West. I don't think you gonna find to many real quick to jump on this one. JMPO! RTR!

I will be shocked if LSU gets it right the first try.  I expect them to hire and then fire 2 or 3 coaches before they are back to being a contender.  Kind of like UT when they decided that Fulmer wasn't getting it done any more.

I'm not sure. LSU has advantages that Tennessee doesn't. They've got a strong tradition, no in-state competition in a talent-loaded state, and an unparalleled home field advantage.

Fisher's already at an elite school with an established program. Why would he leave and start over?

Herman's not going to be offered a better job than LSU any time soon, because there aren't many. I think he'll be the guy unless he's content to stay at Houston if they join the Big 12.

I agree that LSU is a prime job, except you have to compete with Saban every year.  That's why Saban went there from Michigan State, a virtual recruiting monopoly in a talent rich state.

Yet the SEC grind, facing Bama every year, it will take a confident coach to take the job, perhaps one with more confidence than sense, curious to see who ends up there.

The way I remember it, LSU was like Ole Miss, Miss State, and all the other wannabes before CNS went there.  UT is the school that had the strong tradition.

It will be interesting to watch all of this play out.  I don't think we will need to be concerned about them for several years at least.  aTm, on the other hand, will probably be our new rival.

LSU had some good teams in the 1950's, and good ones in the late 1960's, early 1970's under Charlie McClendon. Other than that, it's ordinary. They have won 10 SEC Championships (6 since 1970) & 3 National Championships since 1958. Not bad, but not on the level of Alabama, USC, Oklahoma, etc.

SPEAKING OF THE NEXT LSU COACH

Jimbo Fisher leaving for LSU breakdown. I consider him the most likely to go to LSU, unless his kids are in Tallahassee after his divorce. FSU "tradition" got started in the 1980's. They have to compete against Florida, Miami, & Georgia in a huge way in the recruiting wars. They have a small alumni & fan base, which gets very small when they aren't winning big. Their stadium seats 82,000, which is an indicator of their fan base. Florida is the big dog in football in the state, FSU is little sister (sound familiar?). In Florida FSU fights for attention, LSU is all alone in its state. The big advantage of coaching at FSU is playing in the ACC and facing football giants like NC State, UNC, Wake Forest, Virginia, Boston College, Syracuse, Duke, Pitt, & Ga. Tech.

It will be an interesting coaching search.
