Many of us have been distracted due to things like Spring Break, Easter, March Madness, NFL Draft, NBA playoffs, & so on, so I thought I would post some info on Tide basketball. Some of the information is weeks old & was probably posted on another site of CRS. Reminder that Coleman transferred to Samford & Kessens is going to Florida International University. Here's a link with an interesting comment which I some how missed this info.

Quote
Kessens is the sixth Tide men's basketball player to elect to transfer away from Tuscaloosa after last year's season.

Here's another link on a possible huge recruit out of Huntsville. Don't remember this being posted here.

Quote
Newly crowned Mr. Basketball John Petty said he can feel his decision day coming, and Alabama fans have their fingers crossed.

The five-star, 6-foot-7 guard/forward from J.O. Johnson in Huntsville is being hotly pursued by the Crimson Tide and Kentucky. On the plus side for Alabama supporters, Petty likes the job that Avery Johnson has done. One the flip side, Petty has been a Kentucky fan since he was 9 years old.

Good info on current Tide player.

Quote
After a season of watching his teammates from the bench, alongside Texas A&M transfer Avery Johnson Jr., King is set to hit the court in an Alabama uniform this November and will be one of the older players on the team.

The Tennessee native committed to play for Johnson almost a year ago today after two seasons at Memphis. As a sophomore, King averaged 7.2 points and 4.8 rebounds per game for the Tigers in their 2014-15 season.

I can not think of 6 players who have transferred since the end of the season as mentioned in an earlier post. Plus, we have only 2 commits for next season which has me a little shaky.

Again, here is an article I don't recall seeing earlier on April 13th. Good info.

Quote
Often lost among the start of Major League Baseball and the playoff runs of the NBA (and to a lesser extent, the NHL) is National Signing Day for college basketball. Unlike NCAA football, basketball has an early signing period and most recruits sign during that time frame. For the next wave of hoopsters that date was November 11, 2015. Wednesday is the beginning of the "Regular" signing period that will last until May 18.

One last article with interesting BB info.

Quote
Avery Johnson is clearly looking to craft a roster with size throughout the line-up. The projected starting five for next season's team should look something like this:

PG 6'5 Dazon Ingram (7.7 PPG, 5.9 RPG, 3.3 APG, 1.1 SPG)
OG 6'6 Riley Norris (7.5 PPG, 5.3 RPG, 0.7 APG, 0.8 SPG)
SF 6'6 Ar'Mond Davis (16.3 PPG, 6.4 RPG, 1.2 APG, 1.1 SPG*)
WF 6'8 Shannon Hale (10.8 PPG, 2.9 RPG, 0.5 APG)
C 6'10 Jimmie Taylor (5.2 PPG, 4.7 RPG, 1.8 BPG)

Yeah, we need to get another 4 star if possible and a big man.

We have only had 2 transfers this season. The article saying 6 is a misprint. I think he might had meant something like 6 in the last 3 years.

I have heard Bama is putting the full court press on John Petty. They do not want to lose him.

Alabama got a commitment from Morehead State guard Corban Collins this weekend. He started his career at LSU.  Article link.Click here for link

We are expected to sign at least one more. We are looking for post players that can rebound and score in the paint.

Incoming freshman Braxton Key will get a lot of playing time this year along with the Memphis transfer Nick King. I also expect Hale and Taylor to show improve with another year in Johnson's system and sometimes the "light" comes on in your senior year.

The 17' class looks very god (top 10 good) at this point but it is early.

A couple decades back I knew a man we all called Shaky.  Alcoholic.  He went with us deep sea fishing, 105 miles out, he was drinking before we left the docks.  Seas were ROUGH that day, yet he was the only one fishing the whole time.  Amazing he was, didn't stumble on that back deck the whole time.

Then when we got back to dry land, the guy couldn't walk.

This is the key, we must be able to recruit in-state talent to improve the BB program. The talent we have lost over the years is amazing. Here's a sampling with their high school & college:

DeMarre Carroll (John Carroll 2004)-Vandy  NBA with Toronto
Eric Bledsoe (Parker 2009) PG Kentucky  NBA Phoenix
DeMarcus Cousins (LeFlore 2009) Kentucky NBA Sacramento  (problem child, trouble maker)
Louis Dale (Altamont 2006) Cornell-As point guard led Cornell to 3 consecutive Ivy League titles & 2 consecutive NCAA trips-led team to Sweet Sixteen in 2010

Trevor Lacy (Butler 2011) NC State-Run off from Alabama by Grant, averaged 15.7 points a game at NC State
Stanley Robinson (Huffman 2006) UCONN-Starter at UCONN on Final Four team
Christian Watford (Shades Valley 2009) Indiana 4 year starter, won Big Ten, 2 Sweet 16's
Courtney Fortson (Jeff Davis 2008) Arkansas point guard 3 years, averaged 17 points a game in last season

Just a small list of players I can think of in the last few years we have missed. We have in-state talent, we just have to keep it. Just found a good article from 2011 about this subject. No doubt the "dynamic" personality & energy of Anthony Grant played a part.

You folks are spending a lot of time worrying over something that only time has the answer to. Rome wasn't built over night and Bama's future basketball team won't be either. CAJ is doing am excellent job of in-home recruiting any basketball player that will let him in his front door and that is all you can ask of the man and his staff.

The team will be better this year and that will only enhance next year's recruiting. It is what it is when it comes to recruiting, they may sign and they may not and Terrence Ferguson is a prime example this year.

We worry because we care about Tide BB, plus we have had to watch the program sink deeper & deeper the last 10 years. Plus, the fact is, we have only 2 commits right now, but I do expect better days, especially in recruiting. I think Ingram, Riley, & Hale will have a very good year for us this coming season. Plus, Key, Davis, & Nick King, Avery Johnson, Jr. sound good. Like I said, 10 years is a long time.

We have 6 scholarship players returning from last years active team:

B Austin G
D Ingram G
S Hale F
D Hall F
R Norris F
J Taylor F

Two transfers that were on last years roster but available to play this year:

N King F
A Johnson JR G

Two early Signees that can play:

B Key G  (incoming freshman 4 star)
A Davis F (JUCO)

One late signee that can play this year: C Collins (Grad transfer from Morehead St)

We have 11 scholarship players plus walk-ons Shaffer and Clark.

A lot of recruiting is going on right now. We have at least 3 on campus visits this week. CAJ is still trying to add at least 1 maybe 2 more for next year. We picked up Collins over this past weekend. The late signing period ends 5/18.
