What he took was an over the counter product.  He should have gotten it cleared by the coaches but apparently didn't.  At the very least, his S&C Coach should have known.  I will be surprised if that guy didn't...

Says who? Grier is the only one saying that, not Florida. I doubt it's OTC, plus he gained 43 pounds in a year, sounds more like a steroid-like substance or else a lot of peanut butter & jelly sandwiches.

I don't get it how everyone here keeps saying that he gained "X" amount of weight in one year.  He is a redshirt freshman which means he has been out of high school for about 1-1/2 years.  Also, how many times can you point out that coaching staffs have accurately stated height and weight?  Who knows if his current published weight is high or low?   But, to answer your question,  Coach Mac said he took an OTC.  Click here to read the entire release.  

Grier’s suspension was handed down after he tested positive for a performance-enhancing drug, a source told OnlyGators.com early Monday afternoon. The school confirmed as much when McElwain opened up a press conference an hour later.

“Will Grier won’t play this week and obviously in the near future due to taking a supplement, an over-the-counter supplement that had something in it that was on the NCAA list of things that you can’t have,” he began. “It’s something that he feels horrible about. It’s an honest mistake, and yet, can be prevented by just checking with our medical staff. I want everybody to understand that this is a mistake we’ll learn from.”

At the same press conference, Grier confirmed that he “took an over-the-counter supplement that had something in it,” noting he “did not check with the medical staff before taking it.”

The link was interesting because not much of a definitive nature was mentioned. Why all the secrecy about this "supplement?" Like Jamos said, the aroma of a rat is strong. UF is holding back in my opinion. Some reporter will get to the truth & a copy of the test.

I agree with MD on the massive weight gain. Per the NCAA all schools are furnished with a drug taboo list that should be given to the players. To gain that much weight and a coach doesn't notice and give him a drug test, I smell a rat in the Florida program and they got what they deserved. I think Florida knew and zipped their lips.

I wouldn't bank on seeing a copy of the test any time soon, if ever.  Secrecy doesn't always add up to conspiracy.  Perhaps there exist rules about medical testing and privacy rights?  Perhaps there also are rules about coaches discussing specifics of a player's medical results?

To minimize the seriousness of what the "supplement" was & help out his player & satisfy the fans that the player is a victim. Using a supplement is what a couple of baseball players claimed when they tested positive for PED's. That excuse did not help them, either. If the supplement is so minor, Grier could tell us what it was since it would not violate his privacy coming from him.

It sure couldn't have happened at a worse time for Florida. LSU might have a field day with them.

At least Florida has a QB with starting experience.  Unfortunately for them, he is more prone to smoke a doobie, a bad combination v. LSU.

Since he admits to taking it, Florida can only appeal the duration of the ban.  They're seeking to have him eligible for the start of the 2016 season.

But I don't buy so much the innocent mistake thing.  That's what they always say.  He probably knew what he was doing.
