John Hart, Braves GM, has done more to destroy a team that was a borderline playoff team to a joke since owner Bill Bartholmay in the 1970's. After draining the team of talent & money, he sold it to Ted Turner in 1976. Here are the results of Hart's genius:

Record 60-90 with 12 games left. They are 23-52 on the road.

HITTING STATS

30 Teams in MLB

20th: Team Batting Avg. .250
Last: Home runs  88 (tat's right 88, next lowest is 111 Marlins)
Last: Runs 527
27th: Doubles
26th: Triples
20th: Stolen Bases

PITCHING

27th: ERA
13th: Saves
22nd: Strikeouts
 2nd: Most Walks Allowed

FIELDING

12th

PLAYER STATS

25th: Highest Batting Avg. .298
18th: Homers 18 (Freeman)
95th: RBI's 59 (Freeman)
72nd: Runs 67

That GM is truly outstanding, but don't worry, he's promising everything will be okay by 2017.

I was listening to the Mets-Braves game coming back from NC last week. Don Sutton was talking about how the Braves have put themselves in a great position to acquire free agents, and add a few up and coming farm system guys next year to open their new stadium. The depletion of the team was by design this year to save money for next year.

I hope he's right.

That's the excuse they have been giving since the preseason. Braves have never been big in the free agent market like Red Sox, Yankees, & Dodgers. They are usually very selective with pick-ups like Greg Maddox, Fred McGriff, Terry Pendleton, Otis Nixon, & a few others. Of course, they already had a core group of players to build on, like Glavine, Smoltz, Chipper, Javier Lopez, Lemke, Steve Avery & others.

That was the old Braves. Under the new regime, they went out and got the Upton brothers and Dan Uggla. Those moves blew up in their face, but we may see some pickiups in the off season. We'll have to wait and see.

I think they might sign 1-3 free agents to fill certain needs. All free agents are not big time players, some may be lesser known but known for their fielding, or clutch hitting, or some other need. We might sign 1 big time player, hopefully a power hitter. I am almost afraid of what screw-ups Hart might pull. The signings of the Uptons & Uggla cost Wren his GM job. What an idiot.

I'd be willing to bet that a lot of the Houston Astros fans were calling their organization's leadership into question 2-3 years ago too.

The Astros have been dregs for several years & they are doing okay but not great right now. I hope we're not looking at 6 years of major failure.

Well, baseball regular season is over & Jim Hart has succeeded into turning a playoff contender into a joke.

Braves season records:

2011   89-73
2012   94-68  (6th best record in MLB)
2013   96-66  (3rd best in MLB)
2014   79-83
2015   67-95

Yeah, the bleeding is over because the patient is dead from loss of blood.

The genius GM of the Braves has struck. He traded THE BEST fielding SS in baseball (26 years old) away for prospects and a 31 year old average fielding SS who can hit better than most shortstops, who is 31 years old. He made another brainy move for the future by signing a 39 year old catcher. Shortstop & catcher, along with a closer, are the 3 most important positions in baseball. We also traded away the BEST closer in baseball (age 27) early in the year. Yep, no doubt he is building for the future and I can't wait for 2017. The man is brilliant!!

Quote
The Atlanta Braves have traded slick-fielding shortstop Andrelton Simmons to the Los Angeles Angels in a five-player swap that includes veteran shortstop Erick Aybar and a pair of pitching prospects.

The Braves will also receive two minor league pitchers, left-hander Sean Newcomb and right-hander Chris Ellis, plus catcher Jose Briceno and cash in the deal.

Quote
The Atlanta Braves did not wait to address their question marks behind the plate. Veteran free-agent catcher A.J. Pierzynski is returning to the team on a one-year contract.

The deal is reportedly worth $3 million with another $1 million possible in incentives.

I brought this back to life after the current Braves situation. I wonder what Sutton has to say now?
Braves are 18-42 and are in a tight race against the Twins to have the worst team in MLB. I think the Braves will "win" the competition to be the worst. Braves projected to win 48-49 games at this pace.
