Quote
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -- JK Scott's bio after one season as Alabama's punter takes up a full page in the media guide and begins with heady praise.

''Produced the best season for a punter in Alabama football history...''

The third-ranked Crimson Tide sophomore might not get recognized much on campus - that's a punter's lot, after all - but his booming punts made him one of the team's most acclaimed players straight out of high school in Denver.

He is the best punter I've seen.  The thing about guys who are the best, and destined for greatness, is that they're always working to improve.  Michael Jordon, Jerry Rice, those guys worked hard even after they reached the top.  This kid has a bright future.

Watching Scott in pre-game warm ups is like watching an artist paint. He pays attention to every detail. I have always like watching the kickers warm up for their high booming punts and long field goal attempts. Scott warms up different. He starts by stretching which is normal. Then he spends a lot of time kicking to a student manager 10 yds away like a QB getting loose. They are perfect spirals. I think he is practicing making sure the ball comes off his foot just right. He backs up to 15 yds and then 20. His kicks are as accurate as a QB pass. Once he starts punting it is amazing. He makes the backups and opposing kickers look like average high school kickers.

We have had some very good punters in the past that went on to play in the NFL but I do not remember a punter that had a year like Scott had last year.

Yes sir and I hope he stays through his Senior season too. Being a Soph this year by the time he is a junior with no injuries he will be NFL caliber I believe. I remember a guy he reminds me of when I saw him play in high school by the of Herman Weaver for Villa Rica high school in Georgia. He went to Tennessee and then punted for the Detroit Lions for years. In high school nobody could even get close to him and he played QB on offense. RTR!

He sure didn't have a good day at the last scrimmage, he had one good punt of 65 yds that hit at the 5 yd line and died on the 4 with about a 5 sec hang time. I have no idea what was going on with him and no one asked CNS any questions about him. After about 5 bad punts in a row, CNS had a few words with him and then he hit the good punt.

CNS did talk about Adam Griffith, the place kicker. He explained that last year Griffith played through some terrible pain and has made progress in healing up but as goes back problems, you never know when it might act up again. He said that Griffith puts too much pressure on himself when he misses one and then he may over work himself too much in practice and he doesn't need to do that. He looked physically okay that day.

This is one of my biggest concerns going into the season. We have to have a good FG Kicker.

Maybe the offense will be good enough that he won't be needed as much.

Just as long as he's not needed for a last second FG attempt in a tie game with a championship on the line at the Barn...

I was trying to remember what they use to call the guy I spoke of earlier, Herman Weaver from over in Georgia that punted for the Detroit Lions and it was "Thunder Foot." He could kick a ball never as high as Ray Guy and could hit it as long as Guy for sure. RTR!

I would not mind having another Jeremy Shelly type place kicker on the team. He was extremely accurate from 35 yds or less but did not have a strong leg.
